Dcheek Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Since around a year or so ago we have been fishing the traditional "kid" friendly way with a bobber and worm, and we have certainly had some success and fun doing so. Well the past few times we have been trying lures with them, twin tail grub, beetle spin, and anything else they can just reel......well it worked great and they landed quite a few little guys. Well today I was thinking of something they could use that would be fairly user friendly, and thought I would tie on a wacky rig senko with a split shot a foot or so up the line, I mean no offense to any anglers out there but it certainly does not take a lot of skill to land them that way and sure enough my son hooked into this girl (they caught several today). Anyway moral of the story is kids can use a lot the same techniques we over complicate (myself included) and have great results, bobber fishing is always a great place to start and a ton of fun but is not the only way for our kids to have a good time. Dcheek Posted July 23, 2013 Author Posted July 23, 2013 Congrats to you and your son and welcome to BR!!! Jeff Jeff, Thanks! I have been trolling forums for a while now, it's because of you, Road Warrior, and the other local members I found this spot and others to take them. This one was caught at the daycare pond.... One guy in particular mentioned this pond I just can't recall his name right now. And yes I of course return them to fight another day Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted July 23, 2013 Super User Posted July 23, 2013 We should get together and fish someday! It was probably Carlton (gr8outdoorz). He is another "Memphis" member who pond hops around here! Keep it up! Jeff Quote
Dcheek Posted July 23, 2013 Author Posted July 23, 2013 I believe u r right and gr8outdoorz. And yeah would be cool to get together, we are transplants from NC so I fly solo majority of the time, it would be nice to have some local knowledge and fellow pond hoppers Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted July 23, 2013 Super User Posted July 23, 2013 Nice fish which son caught it? Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 23, 2013 Global Moderator Posted July 23, 2013 Great fish for the youngster! When I used to teach beginners fishing classes the wacky rig was one of my favorites to teach them. One of the classes I taught an 8 year old girl caught a 4 1/2 pounder on a wacky rig on her first cast she'd ever made. I'm sure he's hooked for sure now! Quote

Thanks, he was excited for sure........all he has talked about. Glad to here others are showing kids wacky rig, really is a simple technique and is very effective as we all know. And I know you had to be excited for the little girl, chalk that one up to the teacher Quote
