Every time i try to fish lily's or thick grass no matter what i try by worm ,rig etc gets covered or stuck with weeds or grass or it pulls the lilly's up etc.

What is the trick to this?

If i use a weighted worm 9 times out of 10 its covered with the grass etc, dont think the fish even get to see it.

If i use a drop rig yes the weight sinks to the bottom but while the worm or bait i use attached gets covered on the way to the bottom im thinking.

What am i doing wrong?

I have some spots like that on my home lake and I do really good with a weightless worm or fluke. I fish the weed lines and if that's not working I try on top of the grass or Lilly's and slowly twitch it in until I hit the grass line and I normally let it sink and sit for at least 5 secs depending on water depth of the water. Most of the time they will follow till they get a clear shot at it or sometimes they will hit on top of the grass. But if you wanna go with a weight I'd recommend the mojo rig.

try a skirt when punching. sieberts outdoors sell the whole thing together. it's a tungsten weight/skirt/hook together. you can build these yourself with ease but you can also buy them together.

It is normal to have some vegetation around the jig head or your t-rig weight when fishing thick grass.  A lot of bites come on the fall so the grass causes no issues on those bites.  Once your lure hits bottom, let it soak for a bit and wiggle it.  Then as you slowly work it back to the boat, it will pick up some veggies on the way.  At times during the retrieve the lure may be down in grass and can't be seen by fish.  At other times it is visible.  With patience, time, and experience you will catch bass in vegetation.

As for your dropshot bait getting covered in grass, use a floating worm and make sure your leader is long enough for the bait to be just above the grass.

With regard to lily pads, pitch and flip into the holes and gaps.  When flipping or making a short pitch, you can wiggle and work the bait in a very small area with only a short amount of line out.  When finished you can slowly pull the lure up and out without catching the pads.  On longer pitches try to work the line between the edges of the pads.

You will catch pads and grass on your lure but that's part of it. When the bass are buried in the thick stuff you have to present your lure where they are at.

Highly recommend the Siebert Punch rigs. They're very affordable compared to major retailers similar products.  Get some flipping hooks, beaver/creature style baits and go to work. The idea is not to get hung up on the way down........coming back up is a different story. You' have to expect a little salad coming back with your bait every now and then. The right gear will make the job much easier for you.  Sometimes the skirted punch rig is just too much profile so in really thick gunk, just get some tungsten punch weights and a nice slim bait like a Sweet Beaver, SK Rage Craw, or the Havoc Pit Boss and punch through with a 1oz+ weight.  You'll find the bites in time and you'll start to recognize the areas and layouts that hold more fish. Good luck!
