Bassfishing375 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I recently purchased some Seaguar Red Label fishing line in 8lb test. I put the line on my spinning reel, so the line was coming of the filler spool counter-clockwise, that is the way people told me to put it on. While I was spooling the reel I sprayed a few squirt of Kevin Van Dam's Line and lure onto the line every 20 yards. I let the first treatment settle over night like it says. So when I went out today and when I opened up the bail the line shot off the spool, I don't know if this is really a problem but I'm just curious is this normal? I know for a fact that I did not over spool the reel. Quote
gallowaypt Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 That's how mine did with 10 lb test red label. I had to cut off 20-30 yds. That stuff coiled way too badly for my liking. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted July 22, 2013 Super User Posted July 22, 2013 There is a few possibilities ... 1 - What size reel did you spool this on? The smaller spools seem to show this problem more than larger spools. 2 - Counter-clockwise is correct but how fast did you reel it on your spool? I found that when I reel a spool fast I add too many twists into the line. That causes it to be a big PIA when you finally get done. When I reel it on slow and steady with a few squirts of KVD from time to time reduces that twist. As a sidebar Invizx is much more manageable. Quote

Thank you and you are spot on I do have a small reel and I did spool the line fast. That cleared it up, but is there anything I can do to stop this with out having to respool. Quote

Put the split ring on something that won't break and let your longest cast length of line out. Close the bail and slowly stretch your line just short of the breaking point. Treat it with conditioner while you slowly reel it back on. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted July 23, 2013 Super User Posted July 23, 2013 8# Red Label is simply the wrong line for spinning tackle unless you use it for leader only. I'm using 10# Tufline as backing, then tying a leader about 6" above the reel and 5" or so above the rod tip. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I dont know if this is right or wrong but when I fill a spool of flouro I hold the spool upside down and let whatever wants to fall of fall off. Then I put it on the rod and fish it. This has worked good for me. Quote
