ccummins Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 For my birthday my kids got me a new higher speed baitcaster (7.1 ) and a new rod with Pac Bay microguides. I spooled it up with Suffix 832 braid (65 lb test) on Saturday night. Used it for the first time on Sunday and I noticed that the line made more noise on a retrieve coming through the guides than I am used to hearing. I usually use my spinning rods which are spooled with Trilene mono in 12lb and 14 lb. Did I do something wrong or is this normal? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 22, 2013 Super User Posted July 22, 2013 Yes, it's normal, though Sufix 832 is one of the quieter braids out there. 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted July 22, 2013 Super User Posted July 22, 2013 Yes, but some are worse than others. However, I have only tried 5 different braids, so can't say if there is one out there that is as quite as mono. Doubt it unless it is Tuf Line Supercast because of braid's design. Supercast has an external coating that may help it run quieter. Was out the other day using 20# Supercast, but afraid I never paid any attention to how it sounded. 1 Quote

Super User dodgeguy Posted July 22, 2013 Super User Posted July 22, 2013 most of the noise is the braid on the level wind.people say recoil guides make the most noise but I find them to make the least. Quote

JellyMan Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 You will learn to love the sound of braid tightening up on a hard hookset. I love that sound. *CREAK*! *Squeal squeal*. 1 Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted July 23, 2013 Super User Posted July 23, 2013 I recently switched from mono to braid. Notice the braid casts a lot further but it is noisier 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 23, 2013 Super User Posted July 23, 2013 Braid does make noise, but I'm not bothered by it as I understand what's going on. Sometimes holding the rod at a slightly different angle will curtail the noise. I'm on my 3 rd (and last) spool of Tuf Line Supercast, it is very quite. I'm using the 12# on my heavy bass rod and used 20# on my barracuda outfit. 1 Quote
