bassfisher217 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 So I am looking to buy a new casting rod. My carrot stix just snapped, after about a year of use and so now i am looking for a new rod. I am looking for a rod to pair with my curado 200e7 and using it for spinnrrbaits, jigs, and texas rigged worms, basically an all around rod so i am thinking MH. I have narrowed my selection to a veritas, duckett micro magic, and a *** *** rod and I cannot choose. I was just wondering if you guys had any feedback on these rods and what you think I should get. MrSwimJig Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I have a *** Black 7' 3" MH/F rod and it is a great all around around. Light sensitive and balances very well. Has plenty of backbone to pull fish out of the nasty stuff as well. I have also used a Duckett Micro Magic rod and they are great rods also. Not crazy about the white and red and color. But also another great rod choice. Of the 2 I prefer the *** Black. Quote
kylek Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I have 4 of the Veritas rods and love them. I would highly recommend them. I have not used the other 2 you mentioned. The *** rods are getting a good following on here and have heard nothing but good things about them. I think any of the 3 you mentioned would be good. I would go with the MH for sure. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted July 21, 2013 Super User Posted July 21, 2013 I can only give you experience on my Veritas, it was one of my favorite rods last season. I own the 7'3" MH/F it now serves as my backup all around rod, it is a great multi-purpose rod that can handle anything I ask it too. From frogging/flipping and pitching and was sensitive enough for jigs/worms. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 22, 2013 Super User Posted July 22, 2013 I'm surprised you wouldn't at least consider Pinnacle, St.croix or G.Loomis. One of the perfect "all-around" baitcasting rods is the Avid AVS68MXF. Quote
smr913 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Powell Max 683, 703, 704, 734. All those will do what you need. I really like the 4 power. I can cast a 3/16 bullet weight and plastic well and can handle pitching half ounce jigs and trailers. Quote
SMITTY0045 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 One rod to look into in that price range is the Falcon Bucoo. I have the 7' MH model and it works great with all sorts of applications. It is extremely sensitive and has the back bone to land the big ones. I would definitely take a look at these rods. Quote
Revival Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I have 2 *** in MH and love them. I have 2 13 Omens in Medium and also love them. Quote
Khong Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 If you have $$$ I would go for St.Croix Legend Tournament. Those rods are beautifully hands crafted! Up to date cork handle, lightweight, sensitivity, <$$$FUGI Micro guide$$$>, Diameter of Rod isn't bulky. I paired mine with a Abu Garcia Revo STX for baitcasting and Shimano Stradic 2500 for spinning reel. Why Abu instead of Shimano for Baitcasting, because the drag system is 20lb to 11lb. Even the Curado 300e series is only 15lb. You never know when you're going to land that 15lb bass and you don't have what it takes to land it! Don't buy a Micro Magic Duckett rod. The micro guides on there are too small and it just wears out braided line as you cast. It's also bad when you tie in leaders. Quote
Arv Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Powell Max 683, 703, 704, 734. All those will do what you need. I really like the 4 power. I can cast a 3/16 bullet weight and plastic well and can handle pitching half ounce jigs and trailers. This. I'll add the Endurance 723 in there too. That's my do it all rod. Senkos to spinnerbaits no problem. I love my Powells. Quote

livetofish28 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 if you don't have the money for a legend tournament look at the mojo bass spinnerbait rod its a 7 foot MH fast action. its the most versatile rod i own good luck with finding a rod. Tight Lines Andrew Quote
Brian Needham Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I am a dobyns user.......but the Pinnacle rods supposed to be bad ass for the price, as I have heard from a few people. out of the 3 you listed, I would go duckett, but just make sure you go up a power as the duckett fishes a power weaker than its listing IMO.
