Mr_Scrogg Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I was thinking of sharing a few of my personal local favorite restaurants here in Wichita and abroad. When I travel, I tend to seek out off the path places. No Fast Food, or major chains here. If you are in Wichita, god help you, and want some BBQ, When Pigs Fly has THE best Dry Rub Ribs I have ever ate. My wife dont like ribs, but when she tried a nibble of mine, I lost it. Upstate SC, namely Oconee County, Time Drive In is special. Ive NEVER ate something I didnt like there. Breakfast? Betty's Hungry House. Cathead biscuits and "man" portions. Myrtle Beach is littered with Pancake houses. But about 15 minutes away from the crowds is "The Breakfast Place" owned by a sweet Portuguese woman, and has killer homemade sausage links. Whats good around your neck of the woods? No chains, I fully believe in supporting Mom and Pop places. Service is usually better and quality is spot on. Quote
hookedahawg Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Gatlinburg TN- Partons Deli- They quick steam their sandwiches. Place has been there using the same old steamer since the late 40s. The old man who owns it has his wife make little lemon and chocolate cakes they wrap in plastic. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted July 21, 2013 Super User Posted July 21, 2013 Memphis TN- everybody wants the best bar-b-que. It is not the name brand big stores. Look up Showboat BBQ. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 22, 2013 Global Moderator Posted July 22, 2013 Right across the street from where our house is right where the best Mexican food I've ever had besides in Mexico. Ate there tonight in fact It's called La Caretta's and it has some of the best food, chips and salsa, and margaritas I've ever had. There's a few of them in the KCK metro area and they're all great. Used to have a tiny BBQ joint (sat about 15) that was the best BBQ I've had, and I've had a lot of BBQ having lived in KC for most of my life. Unfortunately the owner got tired of running the place and closed down Quote
fadetoblack21 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Camp Bagnell at LOZ in Missouri, best frog legs and fried catfish I've ever eaten! Place burnt down a coupla years ago but it's back and just as good as ever! Madison's Cafe in Jefferson City Missouri. Some of the best Italian food in the area. If you want pasta, this is the place to eat. Their Rigatoni Carbonara is amazing! Mel's Country Cafe has one of the best country fried steaks I've eaten. Also located in JC, MO. I'm a big fan of the mom and pop places and usually find the best eats at these places. Quote
