What's Your Favorite Brand Of Mono Line?

I grew up on Trilene XL, but wanted to try a few other brands as well.  I like Sufix Elite a lot, Have some Siege, but haven't tried it yet.  This year I am trying Sunline Super Natural on 2 reels, 12# and 17#...both on b/c reels.  So far I really like how manageable it is...soft, casts great & so far low memory.

 

I have 2 large spools of 12# Big Game.  Works great when first on the reel, or if kept in rotation.  Recently got out a b/c that had been setting since February last year.  Memory was horrible.  Red Cast I have on a couple other reels is much better in this regard.  Matter of fact I had to strip the line off all the way down to the last layer in order to remove loose coils.  Never had that happen before.

 

EDIT:  Reels with mono far outnumber reels with Fluoro and braid combined.

For the guys that recommended Sunline I noticed that their diameter to # is very thin. Of course it varies from brand to brand but their 20# line is the same diameter as a 10# line I have.

It's amazing to me that thin of diameter and still keeping the strength.

I like Trilene XT Low Vis Green.  I use 17 lb. on my three bait casters and have had really good luck with it.  It is some tough line for sure.

McCoy and Pline is not mono.  For mono applications (topwater only rod), I use Sunline Supernatural but I always go up in size.  If you want 15, get 20lb.

I'd be willing to bet that Sunline's 20# breaks at around 20# while other line makers whose 10# is close in diameter size to Sunline's 20# requires a lot more than 10# to break.

 

EDIT:  I think it was 10# Yo-Zuri that one of the guys on here said has an actual breaking strength of 19#.  Here is an article on breaking strengths of several mono and copolymer lines.

Here is a comparison of 20# lines.  Unfortunately Sunline isn't included.   Only one line broke at less than 20#.  Some lines broke at over 30# with one line breaking at 36.5#.  In appears not all is equal amongst lines.  I was under the impression there weren't many companies that manufacture mono.  Most line companies buy from one of them.  Which makes it hard to understand some of the results in the following test.

P-Line is a coploymer.  It is mono coated in Fluoro.  It is a hybrid.  Not true mono.

I use mono for leaders off of braid, usually 6 to 12 foot but always Berkly Big Game, excellent abrasion resistance, it is the toughest mono I have found.

I have been using Berkley Big Game for several years now.

Tried braid as well and didn't like it . I tried Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultrasoft for my spinning reel and Yo-Zuri Hybrid for my baitcasters from the suggestions here and I like it very much. Have also used Berkley Big Game, Xl and XT and Triple Fish, all good lines in my opinion.

I'm with A-Jay and Catt and everyone that said Big Game for mono. 600 yd spool and botttle of KVD conditioner if needed. $15.00 on sale? For crankin it's Yo- Zuri Hybrid Copolymer. Super tough stuff. Braid with flouro leader has seved me well also. Closing your bail correctly does greatly reduce wind knots, or in this case loops that turn into knots due to just reeling the bail closed, but your still gonna get them now and then. Fortunately if you don't pull it tight it comes out pretty easily.

I pretty much only use Sufix 832 braid but when I do venture to mono I tend to use Trilene XT. Cheap and it works well.

I have not used mono or copoly line in a long time, except for ice fishing. But when I did, I liked Trilene Sensation on spinning gear, and Trilene Big Game on casting.

Big Game on baitcasters, XL on spinning. Keep trying all different things, and nothing compares with the knot strength and abrasion resistance.

For mono (which I only use for lighter topwater, shallow & medium cranks), my favorite is Stren fluoresent blue.  I am a big fan of P-Line CXX and Power Pro braid.
