Hattrick7 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Any comments on your favorite brand of mono? Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted July 20, 2013 Super User Posted July 20, 2013 I've had good luck with Sufix mono. I don't really use regular mono anymore but Sufix Elite is what I would buy if I were going to. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted July 20, 2013 Super User Posted July 20, 2013 Don't think I have mono spooled on anything. I use to use berkley xt and sufix elite before Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Not technically a mono, it's a copoly, but all I use is P-Line CXX. Any reel that doesn't have braid has this line, I keep my gear simple this way. I use it from 10# all the way to 25#, depends on the technique. Great line! Quote
jtesch Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 didn't use mono for ten years and decided to try it again on a crankbait rod. Got a couple spools of seaguar senshi and love it, handles great. Like all monos the sensitivity sucks compared to braid and floro but for a reaction lure the Senshi is great. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 20, 2013 Super User Posted July 20, 2013 Berkley Big Game - reasonably priced and does the job. A-Jay 5 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 20, 2013 Super User Posted July 20, 2013 Sunline Super Natural 2 Quote
Topwaterspook Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I use a lot of Berkley line but whenever I find a buy on a one pound spool, I generally grab it. That's how I first tried Big Game And Gamma. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted July 20, 2013 Super User Posted July 20, 2013 Sufix Siege and P-Line CX (though it's actually a co-poly) I use Berkley Big Game for backing - hard to argue with 1000 yards for under $10 Quote
piscicidal Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 My partner Robert got me turned onto McCoy Mean Green and I just love this stuff. Almost zero memory, best line I have ever used as far as memory goes. It lays down on the spool perfectly. Casts great. Strong. Cheap. I use this on my spook, crankbait rods and I can't imagine ever going to something else. Like most monos, the sensitivity is not great but for spooks/cranks you don't need it. Quote
cbass12 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Bass Pro Excel Green. I know its cheap but I have no complaints, been using it for years. Not sure if it's technically mono, but P Line C-21 is pretty good line, just started using that recently. Quote
Super User deep Posted July 20, 2013 Super User Posted July 20, 2013 Sufix siege/ elite and Berkley big game. Quote
Hattrick7 Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 Thanks guys for the responses. I think I'll give that Sufix stuff a shot. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted July 20, 2013 Super User Posted July 20, 2013 i'm not too picky on mono. i really only use it for topwater and ul stream trout fishing. trilene xl hasn't done me wrong yet. Quote
jtharris3 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I'm a long time user of Trilene XT. I like XL on my UL rigs. Quote
Greeneye8181 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Whatever is on sale! I stay cheap with mono but fluoro I get some of the most expensive stuff available! Quote
MrSwimJig Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 When I do use mono I use Seaguar Senshi mono. Have had great luck with it. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted July 21, 2013 Super User Posted July 21, 2013 Not technically a mono, it's a copoly, but all I use is P-Line CXX. Any reel that doesn't have braid has this line, I keep my gear simple this way. I use it from 10# all the way to 25#, depends on the technique. Great line! yes it is a mono.mono means single filament or line.it can be made of two or more polymers. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted July 22, 2013 Super User Posted July 22, 2013 I'm not a big mono user but I've been trying out Trilene XT armor coated and I really like it. I use it on my topwater/jerkbait rod and so far it's performed very well. I'm using 8lb but I'd like to try the 10 or 12 out. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Sunline Super Natural for me. I fished it quite a bit last year and like it alot. Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 yes it is a mono.mono means single filament or line.it can be made of two or more polymers. Either way I'm just going by the manufacturers labeling, copolymer. Quote
Khong Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I use to love mono when I was a beginner fisherman. It was cheap and will do the job. P-Line Flour coated is my choice. Now that I'm a better fisherman, I figure that Braid, or Braid with Flour-Carb leader is the way to go. Why do I use Braid? Why not! It's stronger with less diameter. It cast farther and it doesn't have memory. People say, "Wind knot is a killer." If you learn to close your bail correctly, you'll never get one. People also say, "What about clear water, the bass will see it." Then learn to tie a flour-carb leader. Braid is just better! Quote
Got1Fishing Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Suffix Siege. For some reason I catch more bass with mono than I do with my braided setups... and I use a leader. Quote
