paul25 Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I just got mine in from tackle wharehouse and was just wondering in if any of you have used this brand lure knocker and what you thought about it. Quote
thharleyrider Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I used it once and it worked. I put the cord on an old spool that I used the line off of. Put it back in the box to keep it straight. If not you spend a lot of time straightening the line when you need it. I have also used 1oz egg sinkers with a snap swivel connected and just let drop down the line and hit the lure. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted July 19, 2013 Super User Posted July 19, 2013 I got one. It works some of the time. Sometimes, you've got to pull out the 18' extendable lure retriever and use it instead. I know that I need both of them, or else I would lose many more lures. My issue with the hound dog lure knocker is storage, and getting to it when you need it. It takes up space on the deck and deck space is at a premium. You've got to make sure you stow it right after you are done using it or else you will end up tripping over it. I am trying to rig some system where it is both easy to deploy and easy to store. Easier said than done. There is a learning curve to using this tool. Get as vertical as you can above the stuck lure, behind it if you can. Getting a straight drop where it can smack into the snag as hard a possible seems to work best. Again, easier said than done in timber. Tie a good knot and use stout cord. I lost one lure knocker that came untied at the knot. Still no clue how that happened, I thought I tied a good knot. I am open to on how to make this tool BOTH easy to store and easy to deploy. It is a work in progress. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 19, 2013 Super User Posted July 19, 2013 I have one attached to a chalk line. The line is orange to match the knocker and comes with a plastic retriever. Take a look at this at Home Depot. Quote
Mr. Bassin II Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I have mine attached to 30 foot long retractable dog leash. Just tie the knocker to the chord in this device. With this I just pull out how much I need then let it retract back in the handle when done. Makes a compact unit when not in use as well. Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 here's my home made one. works every time. i've since removed the 4/0 treble. it wasn't necessary and only tangled everything up. i'm gonna upgrade to a chalk line in the future. 1 Quote

Take a look at this at Home Depot. i may have to try this i went out yesterday and i have it attached to an old baitcaster on the bottom half of a ugly stick, i found it awkward to try to hold the boat steady while trying to hold two rods in my hand, i did get a crankbait back but lost a jig so i will give the chalk line a try Quote
