Hi I'm fairly new angler living in the Chicago suburbs and, I'm 14 years of age and need help growing my arsenal.  I fish a pond that has murky water and has lots of algae.  I can catch a fair amount of bass with live minnows, but am looking to use artificial baits since i cannot always purchase minnows due to lack of transportation. Here is what I have now,

  • 7' Abu Garcia Veritas rod with a Black Max reel Medium power with fast action
  • KVD 2.5 crankbait (white with chartreuse stripe)
  • 1/0 2/0 and 4/0 gamagatzu wide gap hooks
  • 1/0 trailer hooks
  • buzzbait (Black and red)
  • Spinnerbait (white with chartreuse stripe)
  • KVD perfect plastic rodents (green pumpkin)
  • KVD perfect plastic fat baby finesse (candy craw)
  • Flukes (white and black)
  • artificial craws (june bug)
  • Zoom swimbaits (watermelon)
  • 4" powerworms (watermelon)
  • Powerworm trailers (watermelon)
  • 1/4 oz weights
  • 12 lb mono
  • snap and barrel swivels

If you could please recommend things i can add to expand and also new rigs to try, money is a problem, but Christmas is the solution :)

Fish what you have man! You've got a lot of areas covered there and all of them should catch you fish.

Put in the time with what you have and trust me, the fish will come. ;)

Offset wide gaps and plastics. Pretty much all i throw in heavy weeds. If you can cast cranks with out catching weeds, do that and try to match the lure with what baby fish you see running around.

I agree with speed, you got a nice selection.

Only thing I will mention is a smaller bullet weight like 1/16 oz. paired up with the fat baby finesse or the power worms will make a deadly texas rig. The light weight helps get it down but allows you to get movement going without imparting a lot of movement on your part. You can drag and slowly swim it easy and it doenst pull up as much junk as a heavier weight. I would save the 1/4 oz for rodents or windy days.

Yeah the lighter weigh might help that. Also once the cool weather sets in some or most of the algea will die off. So fall, winter and spring you should have an easier time. It is typical though. Sometimes jerking it free helps getting it through the weeds algea free and then letting it sit for a 30 seconds will get you bit.

That is not too shabby, I am lucky if my wife lets me keep 50 bucks outta my paychecks every two weeks :eyebrows:

I'm almost 16 and in the last year I spent every pay check I could on bass fishing stuff on every part I could. I wish I could re do it. Just go slow, you can only fish 1 bait at a time you don't need 300 to catch fish. Fish the techniques and baits you have confidence in, don't buy 200$ in drop shot setups and weights if your not goin to use it.
