Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted July 19, 2013 Super User Posted July 19, 2013 Found this old Hula Popper on the ground at a secluded pond in the woods. A little Dawn dish soap, some shiny new hooks, and a skirt off a broken WalMart spinnerbait and it's ready to catch fish again. I'm wondering how old it is cuz BassPro.com doesn't carry this color and the design on the back is different than anything they have. I know it's probably not that old though cuz it's not made of wood or anything like that. Also it seems like the skirt may tangle with the rear hook when casting. I suppose I could either trim the skirt or switch the back hook for a smaller one. Any suggestions on that? Here are some before/after pics. 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 20, 2013 Super User Posted July 20, 2013 Not sure how I missed this Joe, but you did a heck of a job! Go catch some memories now! 1 Quote
Snakehead Whisperer Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Oldie but goodie. Good looking lure. I haven't fished one in forever; going to have to bring 'em out next time. The popper bite is red hot here on the tidal Potomac. Probably wouldn't worry too much about the rear hook and the skirt... not until you try it and see what it does, at least. 1 Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted July 21, 2013 Author Super User Posted July 21, 2013 Thanks guys! I fished it quite a bit when I went out this morning. Didn't have any problems with the skirt tangling in the rear hook. I had a lot of blowups on it but only hooked up with this one. Not huge but it was somewhere around 13-15 inches. It's really satisfying to catch a fish on a lure that you personally put some work into. I know I really didn't do too much to it, but still... 2 Quote
