I just saw other thread about use of snap on crank. I use a snap on many type of lures. if you are snap user also, which one do you use?

I recently found Norman Speed Clip. I thought this was a great product. It turned out it wasn't good as I had hoped for. Because it is double wired product, it is very difficult to put if the eye of the hook/lure is small. I got the smallest one they have. And some cases it goes in, but it gets stuck in certain position. It doesn't work well with something like swimbait hook with bait keeper.

I'll be going back to snaps. But I had them break on me before, so I am wondering if someone can recommend particular brands that worked for you. And I am looking for something as weedless as possible.

Thanks bunch.

I only use clips for crankbaits/jerkbaits. I've never had a problem using Eagle Claw clips from walmart. Never had one break. Clips are the same to me as split-rings: I'll spend $.99 for a pack of 10 rather than $3 for a pack of 5 Mustad brand split rings. I can't POSSIBLY believe there is much of a difference between the functionality of one clip -vs- another clip.

Hey Loop, good to see you over here.  It's Steve from SJB.

I use Norman speed clips too, but only for cranks.  Everything else gets a san diego jam knot.  Good for mono and fluoro.

I've found a super easy way to tie it that takes about 5 seconds.

If I ever see you around I'll show you how.

Eagle claws or any type of cross lock. Can't stand speed clips for the reason you mentioned. Hint, if you get the 6 inch steel or titanium leaders you can cut the loops and get some smaller lighter snaps. Don't worry about the breaking strength if you are using 10 or 12 lb test. Use them until you feel they are compromised, clip off and toss. You can use the small barrel swivels for dropshotting.

Hey Steve, good to see you here as well. Actually if I remember correctly, you are the one suggested speed clip to someone and that's how I got to know that product. For tie, I am currently using Pitzen knot. It is almost like San Diego, but without going through the bottom loop, so it is 0.5 sec faster. :wink2: But I still like the idea of snapping it in.

Hooligan, the fastach looks interesting. I have never seen anywhere before.

Dave P, I think the cross lock is the solution for me. The nearest store don't carry that kind. It looks very weedless. This one from Kahara especially look good. http://www.***.com/Kahara_Cross_Lock_Snaps_10pk/descpage-KCLS.html (Difficult to tell the size on interenet)

Cross lock sounds like what you're looking for.

You mentioned using it for swimbait hooks.  Are you using them for texas rigs too?  You'll be losing sensitivity any time you don't have tension on the line.  Moving baits should be no problem though.

Before speed clips, I used Luhr Jensen Duo Lock snaps without issue, and they were virtually weedless, despite the little hook sticking out the side.  The bait itself was more likely to snag grass than the snap itself.

I prefer the duolock style over the cross lock because I find it's easier to change lures with them, not an issue of quality.  I do not buy name brand, I buy bulk lots fairly inexpensive.  To my memory I've never had one fail, true I don't catch 20# bass, but I do catch 20# snook, tarpon and jack crevalles with them, well tied clinch knot and you're good to go.
