Derek Garner Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 im looking for a new flipping and pitching rod to pair with a Quantum Catalyst reel, i prefer MH, fast or XF action, I want a quality rod but dont want to go over 100, any suggestions or people selling such an item? Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted July 18, 2013 Super User Posted July 18, 2013 I'd find a *** *** Black or a Shimano Clarus in 7' or longer in MHXF. I think with these two, your going to get the best sensitivity in the 100 dollar range. If you save 100 dollars more you can open your options waaaaay up. Bottom contact bait, you wait as sensitive as you can get. Just a suggestion though. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Wait until I Cast offerings become available. It sounds like there will be several new rods in your price range. Run through the Tackle Warehouse V-logs and be amazed. Quote
Derek Garner Posted July 19, 2013 Author Posted July 19, 2013 im currently looking at a Abu Garcia Veritas micro guide rod 7' MH fast action for $95, although imay wait until after icast stuff comes out, any comments on the mirco veritas Quote
moguy1973 Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Wait until I Cast offerings become available. It sounds like there will be several new rods in your price range. Run through the Tackle Warehouse V-logs and be amazed. I watched all the iCast videos Glenn put up on here and I agree. Okuma partnered with Scott Martin and is coming out with a pitching/flipping rod called the Mat Daddy that has an extra eye just above the rod handle to keep your line from getting tangled in your reel handle when you are flipping. Pretty cool idea if you ask me because my line is always getting wrapped around the handle when I'm flipping. From what Scott said in the video it's going to be priced around $130-140 too... Quote
5dollarsplash Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I really liked the look of that Okuma. I have a EVX from Okuma I like quite a bit and this looks like a step up without the big jump in price. I'm lookin forward to seeing them in person. Quote
shawnmc Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 7'6 Powell Diesel and have $$$ too spare on new tackle. Quote
Derek Garner Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 i looked at the Powell Diesel, really like the price, but its CHEAP, is it a good rod, like sensitivity and durability? the multi-purpose hook keeper is defiantly a plus, i love those things! Quote
dwtaylor Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Do not get a microguide Veritas as the guides pop out and break off of the blank. Not a bad rod, but terrible guide feet. Instead, look for a regular guide model. I have a 7.5' mh Veritas that I used to use for all of my flipping/pitching but then I bought a Dobyns Champion 736C. Quote
piscicidal Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I use Dobyns 766 savvy. It has everything I need in a flipping stick. Long full cork handle. Relatively soft tip. Sturdy backbone. Proper spacing between reel and first guide. LIFETIME WARRANTY. It's a little over your $100 threshold but I would consider it. If $100 is a hard ceiling for you I would check out the BPS extreme. Watch mikeyballzz fishing on you tube...before he went to the Dobyns Savvy/Powell he was using that BPS extreme rod. He has caught hundreds of 5-10lb bass on that rod. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted July 20, 2013 Super User Posted July 20, 2013 If you wait another month you'll be in prime flipping season and ICAST products will be starting to show up and big discounts will be coming on older models. If you like the long rod to pitch which will also be a flipping stick the old model Fenwick HMG 7'6" H-F will be available right at the $100 dollar price point, it is a telescopic that reduced to around 7' but it feels great, you won't find many lifetime Warranty sticks for that. The Savvy is over priced anymore, most manufacturers off better components with better blanks at better prices, it is a good rod but others havce caught up and Dobyns makes you pay premium for name even though it is made over seas. The good thing is you have a lot of good sticks to choose from in your price range, 10 years ago you would have to pay $150 - $175 to get what is now being offered for sub $100. The Powell Diesel is a good rod too but if you prefer the Warranty you can get a Daiwa Procyon for like $70, it is pretty decent and carries a 5 year warranty and most of the rods that I would say you could pitch and flip with have extra fast actions.
