buzzfrog Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 are they game changers, seems every time I get my rods loaded a storm comes through. doubt it is a cold front as we get them everyday in the summer. hypothetically is fishing good after them, any major changes in fishing after them?? Quote
Mccallister25 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Im sure someone will be able to get technical, and give you a more detailed, better answer than I can, but IMO its not a complete game changer.. Or matbe it is? I live in NC and weve been having a ton of those rains/storms the past 2-3 weeks, and it seems I did way better after those rains in the evening as apposed to the rare sunny day or two weve had. I fish local ponds, and I was throwing jigs/buzzbaits/ and shallow cranks around the banks and getting pretty good fish. Quote

I am from Hickory past 2 times I played what you would call a perfect game but still no fish, you know when you go out no lashes perfect casts to perfect places, not nothing. they shore is a cruel mistress. tatertester Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I remember fishing a nice lake with an island. We were right by the island when a sudden thunder ,lightning , rain storm hit.....Lasted about 30 minutes and after the storm ,much to my surprise bass were very active and smashing lures....I was expecting to see a shut down, but, surprised me.???? Hyrule Bass Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 my recent experience with these storms is horrible. i went to Smith Mountain Lake for 5 days over 4th of July. Everyday there was a passing rain storm and everyday the fishing was horrible for me on the dock and on the boat. It wasnt only the bass fishing, it was the catfishing too. Even the white perch were few which is rare. Couldnt locate any stripers. The only thing i could catch consistently were bluegill on a tad fry in the day time. Day or Night it was just bad fishing for me. 3 nights in a row i went down to the dock with nice weather, and as soon as i baited up and casted one line out, baited up a second and got ready to cast it, the rain starts pouring. buzzfrog Posted July 19, 2013 Author Posted July 19, 2013 We have staind water and yesterday it wasn't muddy but more darker. I couldn't pay to get bit. I slung everything but a c rig. It was hot as h&ll and ii didn't wanna mess with rigging, plus really didn't have correct gear Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 19, 2013 Super User Posted July 19, 2013 I've had mixed results. Sometimes topwater is stellar after a passing t-shower. Other times, it seems like the fish shut down, and slow finesse is the way to go. 1 Quote
TWMstr Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I can feel your pain buzzfrog. Here in fayetteville is just the same. Looking up to be a decent weekend though. Pretty sure trying it before the rain next week will be good fishing. Quote
fhsfish Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 buzzfrog, are you fishing lake hickory or are you hitting ponds and such? I'm not far from you (Morganton) and havent done much good on any of the lakes along the catawba this year. The rain has been an absolute killer this year. How is water clarity and lake levels on Hickory in the last couple weeks? Quote

How is water clarity and lake levels on Hickory in the last couple weeks? hey bro, I am fishing every thing that has a puddle in it, I don't know of any ponds, except the asylum ponds in your neck. hickory for the most part is almost back to its normal color, gun powder is still kinda muddy, the main channel is um a tad bit more stained than usual(nothing to bad to give em this lock jaw) . the lake is down about a ft. last time I went, Lookout is up and castle seems to be normal, Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted July 20, 2013 Super User Posted July 20, 2013 Buzz and fhsfish, I have fished both Rhodhiss, and ponds In Burke county recently and the water Is so dirty It's been tough. I plan to go tomorrow night and hopefully the few days we have gone without rain will turn them on. Quote
fhsfish Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I appreciate it bro... I might try and hit hickory sometime middle of next week then. I'll post back and let you know how things go Whitwolf I appreciate the update on rhodhiss too. It's actually my favorite lake to fish but it's been solid red muddy almost every time I've been there this year. Quote
buzzfrog Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 I drove over the bridge at rhodhiss and the water looked fine. that was 3 days ago, maybe it was just a piece then Quote

AndyTN Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Well last week I tried after one of those storms and my partner and I both got skunked. Today it looks like we are in for the same weather, but we will be out there trying again. A bad day fishing is still a good day. Quote
