james_oxley Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I have a 7'1" med-hvy xf legend tournament matched with a lews tournament mg for the reel. The balance is very tips heavy causing fatigue while flipping and pitching jigs. Any suggestions on a reel that would be better suited for the rod? Thanks Quote
Quitlimpin Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I had a LTB that was similarly tip heavy and a Zillion helped to balance it somewhat. That would be my vote. 1 Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted July 18, 2013 Super User Posted July 18, 2013 I have a 2nd Gen SX on mine and its off balance but I do not mind. I frog with it all day. Quote
livetofish28 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 What year LTB is it I have a tournament mg on my 2012 year and its balanced just fine Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted July 19, 2013 Super User Posted July 19, 2013 I am using a Shimano Calcutta TE 101GT on the exact same rod, and it makes for a great combo. I have been using it for 3/8-1/2oz swim jigs with 4" trailers. Quote

Thanks If you are just wanting to try something and not really purchase a new reel give these a shot. From walmart part# 0037824 ---Soft Touch Rubber chair tips 1 1/8" - 1 1/4" . For the weight added it will be less and have more of an effect on the balance than a heavier reel will. I found that around 1 ounce at the butt is like 3 ounces at the reel so you are 2ounces less overall. I dont think a little under an ounce heavier reel (7.9 mg to 8.8 zill) will change the balance much at all given it will cost $200+ compared to $2. I have a LTB but not the one you have and putting one on brought the balance point 2 inches closer, to under the reel itself. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted July 19, 2013 Super User Posted July 19, 2013 Here is a pic of my 7'6"cumara with one of those caps showing the balance point with & without cap. Quote
james_oxley Posted July 19, 2013 Author Posted July 19, 2013 Thanks for all the input! I think I will try the butt caps though. Quote
