You're dreaming my friend, but good luck trying.

And this is exactly why people are at odds with each other. An attitude where only your way is right and there is no way any truth can be elsewhere.

I am always willing to listen to other arguments and have even changed my stance on things which I feel makes me a better person

Panthers are killing YOU!!  Dude, you are a Yankee!  The cats are killing us.  Every stinking year we look good on paper.  Not counting the year after Peppers left.  I always think we are going to the conference title, but they always let me down.

I avoid confrontation.  Just leave them alone.  I've tried to discuss this kind of thing and you are just wasting your breath.  Minds are made up and you cannot change them.

But it has never happened while I was fishing.

Thanks for that by the way

Sincerely,

Me, and every other Bears fan out there.

I believe that was my worst day as a Panther's fan.  We all truly hoped he was trying to get more money.  We started out as a Defense first time and a grind it out Offense.  Loved it.  But after we lost Peppers we also had injuries all through our Defense.  Man, that was a terrible year.

 I'm not dreaming at all.  If I were approached by 100 PETA members and my comments only got through to one person it would be worth it.  We win the battle by changing hearts and minds.  It's much easier to get someone to understand your point of view if you can find a reason to respect them.  I think we can find something to respect in most people we disagree with, except for those psychopaths and sociopaths we occasionally encounter.

All right, I can tell you are sincere so i will leave you alone.  I used to talk to true believers but it is a waste of time.  You will not turn even one.

If I find someone looking for the truth, fine, I'll talk all day, but if they have made up their minds, it is a waste of time, in my opinion.

Ok, I could go lots of ways with this but I can't imagine why the fact that you changed your mind makes you a better person.  But most people think they are a better person all the time.

Changing your mind or stance is just being normal.

You are assuming that what you say is the truth....anyways it really doesn't matter because like has been said 99% aren't willing to listen to another side as their minds are made up

The only liberal/peta member that I would run into where I live would be too worried about banjo music and looking for the interstate signs.

Luckily I live in Polk County Fl.

The Largest county in Florida.

It has has the most lakes, over 150.

We drive biggest trucks and have bright red necks.

We mind our own business and don't tell you how to lead your life.

If we have many of those people around, they are at least smart enough to keep their mouth shut.

I guess I should stop fishing in my fox hunting attire on my way to the hunt with the beagles. They might say something to me for sure. Just kidding I really hunt elephants and Rinos for their ivory, bear for their gallbladder and sharks for their fins only. Do you think any of these folks are actively cleaning our water ways and creating artificial reefs off the coast and habbitat structure in lakes and testing water quality in our water ways? Do you think they know that I do all of that? Or do they only see what they want to see or are one sided with their cause. Open minds opens doors. This has never happened to me but if it did I would just smile and walk away.

I think it depends on the person who you are speaking with it comes to groups such as PETA.  A large chunk of them will not listen to a word anybody is saying, almost as if everybody is evil for walking on the animal's earth.  However there's also a large chunk that would be more than willing to listen to a fisherman's point of view and discuss/learn how the average fisherman loves to help the environment as well, considering if we don't we won't have anywhere to fish

Most people's opinions can only be based on who they've met that has the opposite point of view.  I"m sure there's a fair share of fisherman who aren't ethical or who litter, etc. but that is clearly not the standard everybody sticks by.

On the same note, I'm sure there's a % of PETA members who truthfully do help a lot with different charities, etc involving helping animals/environment...but PETA also is statistically one of the biggest kill shelters in all of America for rescued pets.  I also have a co worker who is an avid PETA member but routinely eats KFC chicken and cheeseburgers at lunch, while talking about protesting zoos. That I will never understand, ever.  :Idontknow:

moral of the story, in my head, is if they're willing to discuss, that's awesome and I share the thought of we can all learn from each other. But if they're not wiling to listen and are being hostile, then just separate yourself from them before it gets out of hand.

I have never been confronted while fishing, but I have had several conversations with those who believe catch and release is a barbaric practice that should be illegal. I think the above comment sums up my view very well.

I guess i've been living in a fantasy world i was honestly surprised to hear that anybody had an issue with fishing.

Not too get too deep into politics, ethics, and a danger of getting suspended from this website, so I'll just say this...

...most of those idiots have absolutely no problem with killing of unborn human babies, and therefore they are clueless hypocrites and I can never take them seriously.

I haven't been approached by the anti's yet when hunting or fishing. I do not hunt in my home state it's not

safe too many guys with guns think it's a time to shoot at the forest instead of going to the range. Being an ex logger I was never in the woods during hunting season on Saturdays it's not safe.

Hunting in Vermont I have the highest respect for the green mountain boys and they respect me once they find out I'm a logger too. There kind of tight lipped at first. I feel safe with these guys too.  I leave the forest the way I find it. I find its those out of staters who leave there garbage behind them. Who do they think is going to pick it up?

Fishing before first light till 9am I never see anyone. But in some areas of the lakes I find the shore fisherman's garbage that's left behind. Like coffee cups,  sandwich wrappers and empty worm containers.

This garbage left on the banks and In the forest gives our sports a bad rap.

My point is let's not give the anti' s more problems that are caused by a few of us to use against us all.  Take your garbage out with you when we leave it's that simple.

My mom......She loved animals, had a bunch of rabbits. Every so often she would kinda ask me how I can put a hook through a fish, take it out of the water so it cant breath, then put it back. I was like....."It's fun..." She also asked if I would ever do hunting. To which I replied, yes. I've never been because i don't have anybody to take me, and i feel like hunting isn't something you just try out on your own.

Another thing....us dedicated fisherman are bigger tree hugers or environmentalists than most people. I clean up trash, scold my friends when they litter, and I just love nature in general. It takes care of me so I take care of it.

Never on or at the water. I had (yes past tense) at family member who was fanatical about PETA. Going to meets, getting the videos, the whole nine. Hypocrite. Ate gummies (cow bone), owned a bunch of animals (not animal liberation), used products tested on animals, sabatoging/destructing others properties for their own agenda, etc.

You can't reason with these people, they are terrorists.

Have you ever heard of a PETA member being physically assaulted (in self defense ;) ) in south central PA?

I've never heard of one so they must not approach too many of us here.

I wouldn't mind being confronted by certain PETA representatives... like Eva Mendes or Alicia Silverstone.   :eyebrows:

In Kansas it's illegal to harass or interfere with someone engaged in lawful hunting, fishing, or trapping. If I ever get bothered by a PETA member I'll be on the phone with the local PD and maybe a lawyer to deal with my "psychologic damage" they've caused me.  :laugh5:

That is the dumbest thing I have read. When it said they suffer "physoclogical damage" I knew it was just gonna go down hill from there. As far as feeling pain, I am not 100% sure they know what they are talking about. Bass are cold blooded just like many reptiles, which lose their tails as defense. I think they have feeling but in no way can it be the same as a warm blooded animal much less a human. They just try to give everything human qualities as means of justification and persuation. I also like that they insinuate fishermen leave trash all over the place. Typical AR nut jobs. I seen it too many times, especially with the dogs, they will take a perfectly healthy working animal and add 20 pounds and stick it in a 5x5 kennel only to kill it in a month because the owner had it on a chain, didn't feed it enough, had scars from catching a few pigs. Maybe if they loved human beings as much as they loved animals this world wouldn't be such a cold, hateful and backwards place. I agree there is nothing you can say, just walk away because insanity has no reasoning.

Bass do not have a cortex and therefore they feel pressure, not pain as we feel it.

At least that is what the research says.
