What are the ideal baits while drop-shoting for smallmouth from shore?

Posted

i drop shot where there is light cover using ewg hooks and tear drop sinker. i try to make it most weedless and in heavy cover i've tried it but lots of snag with the sinker.  open water open hook for sure and for baits you can drop shot about almost anything. from wacky senko, trickworms, SK dreamshot, beavers,  worms etc.

A 3" Senko, wacky rigged on a DS hook, works no matter where you put it. If there are perch in the forage base, try the rootbeer w/green flake color. :)

This may be a dumb question but I have never fished a drop shot. Should all drop shot baits float?

Not at all. You can use pretty much anything depending on what the situation is that youre fishing. Just make sure you use the right hook while rigging your baits, you can use a dropshot hook or a off set worm hook so it is texas rigged.

Awesome, thanks for the info! Looking forward to trying a drop shot the next time conditions call for it!

Try a zoom super salt plus finesse worm with natural colors on a vmc spinshot 1/0 hook, works every time. Another thing you can try if that doesnt work is a 5" watermelon w/th blue flake senko on your dropshot or wacky rig.

i'm a big fan of the Dream Shot. Also, if you take a zoom original trick worm (non salt), carefully slice it vertically head to tail in half, and nose hook it, it makes a killer DS bait.
