What did the bites feel like?I fish tubes alot and I get taps and even have fish knock it pretty hard but they are just little junk fish like stripes, bluegill,or little smallmouth. Now I have also had days where quality smallmouth were spitting it out almost as soon as it picked it up.Finicky bass may spit out the lure quickly if it feels you(the line tention). What species and what size fish did you catch?

I can potentially see a few problems causing you to miss fish but in all honesty we need more info from you before we can help.

How deep were you fishing?

What line size?

What action and power of rod?

What type pf cover or structure were you fishing?

What is the size of the hook on your internal tube jig head? (also in your post you have "the one that slies on the shank of the hook", does that means lies or slides?)

And what CJ already asked, what species were you targeting and did you catch?

i was fishing for largemouth with a 1/16 oz head 3/0 hook fishing for bedding bass anywhere for 6" to 4' deep on 8lb p-line floroclear, fast action medium power rod the weight slides to change the fall of the bait if is up at the front it will fall nose bown if it is at the back it will glide back.

Bedded fish will often blow a bait out quicker than you can blink which could cause the misses.

If you weight was sliding back toward the hook point it could have been obstructing the point or gap and not allowing the hook to penetrate the fish's mouth.

If it were me, I would go up to a meduim heavy rod with a fast tip, go up to 10 or 12 lb floroclear. Also, use a weight that stays put in the front of the tube and a 4/0 hook.

For bedded fish you really need to watch the fish and let it tell you when it's ready to bite. A discussion on how to catch bedded fish is a whole different discussion in itself.

yea ,,, bed fishing .... well more than likely those bass were just moving the tube off there bed .....  thats the hardest thing to learn about bed fishing .  you have to set that hook FAST .... see most bass just want that bait outta there bed ... so they arent hitting the tube the way they would be if they are eating the tube ..... there just moving the bait of there bed ..... also they may just grab the tail of the bait so you cant set the hook .....

Bed fish will drive you nuts somedays.  I have watched the same fish crab my baits by the very tip of the tail drag it off the nest.  They can also suck in and blow out a bait before you even think of setting the hook.  Basically bed fihsing takes practice.

Your setup sounds fine to me.  Sounds like you just need more practice as bed fishing.
