Brick Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 I live in Fairfax and I'm lookin for some ponds around the area to fish for bass. Alos any place that has good shore fishing. Any spots? Lake Mercer is not a bad place to start. You can pretty much shore fish all the way around, and I have caught some nice bass out of there. Some decent crappie too. Plus, they recently drained a nearby lake(huntsman). Before they did, they moved as many fish as they could over to mercer which is right down the street. I prefer fishing near the d**n. The stump field at the other end looks great, but I haven't pulled to many bass out of the stumps, mostly crappie. I think the bottom around the stumps is all muck and mud. Quote

One more species to blame for the poor crabbing LOL. I knew catfish would chase baits, I've caught one on a spinnerbait and one on a Senko before Article makes them sound like they are going to be an issue like Snakeheads. Quote

I've known about the catfish problem for a while, its been in the news before. I too have caught catfish on Tx worms, spinnerbaits, jig & pig, crankbaits, and spoons. I think they'll go after anything that comes near. Quote
Brick Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Most people think of catfish as scavengers, but the big blues and flatheads actually prefer live prey. I've caught cats on all sorts of lures. I've even caught a small cat on a dry fly! Quote
flippin4it. Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I hit a small lake/large pond yesterday after work and crushed them on the dropshot rig. Dead sticking seemed to be the key, 14 in total in just over an hours time. 4 inch black trick worm slathered in Jacks Juice did all the work, all I had to do was stand there! Largest fish came in around 5lbs, the average size around 2lbs. All were healthy and released. I can't say enough about the Daiwa Steez Compile-X 7ft med/lt spinning rod. It is worth every penny! 1 Quote

DJ 6_6 Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I want to take the boat out to Occoquan Sunday Morning with my brother. First chance I'm getting to fish this spring. Not sure If I'll make it simple because I have gigs Tonight and Saturday night. Waking up early Sunday is going to be tough. But if anyone hits the Rez today or tomorrow, let me know how you make out:) Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted April 25, 2014 Super User Posted April 25, 2014 I plan to go out Sunday, also. Probably rent out of Fountainhead. Not sure if Lake Ridge renting yet. I like LR if I think I'll want to spend most of my time in/around Sandy Run since I'm trolling motor-only. Tomorrow, I'm going to head down to explore AP Hill. If anyone has any knowledge/experience there, I'd greatly appreciate it. 1 Quote
