DJ 6_6 Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 As it turns out, my private/HOA pond does hold bass. I managed to catch one in about 45 minutes on a 5" wacky rigged senko. I am upset I didn't bring my scale with me, but I'm certain it was a new PB. A conservative estimate is maybe 4lbs? Not sure. Really wish I brought my scale! My previous best was right at 3lb. Also should add this was with my Daiwa Lexa 100 spooled with Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 on a 7' M/F Veritas. Hook was a 1/0 Gamakatsu finesse weedless. Real nice!! Quote
JSPOONE Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Can't believe I haven't seen this thread earlier. I was surprised Huntsman was open already. I thought they just drained it and took out a ton of bass. Anyhoo, looking for someone to buddy around with and do some pond hopping on the weekends. I like to hit it early and then again in the evenings. If anyone is interested just pm me. Tight lines! they havnt started to drain/dredge the lake yet.. i talked to a couple fairfax county park authority last week and they say that is scheduled to happen around sept. Quote

bluezed Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 Fished my pond twice this weekend. Nothing but a small channel cat on a 5" wacky rigged Senko. Depressing! Quote
s freud Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Hit the res this evening couple small bass on a crankbait and spinnerbait. Water was 76 which is considerably cooler than the 84 it was a couple weeks ago. Normal stained water clarity. Saw a big school of bait fish and caught one of myittle guys from around them. Quote
Jeezer Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Fished out of fountainhead with the wife yesterday morning, we managed to find 3, all dinks. All on plastics. Quote
shsabres Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Hey all, new member and fellow NOVA angler. I drop the canoe at Bull Run Marina. Any tips on spots to fish in that area. We dont catch too much. And when we do its small ones. And the ENTIRE time monster bass jump out of the water in the middle so any tips/tricks are helpful. My buddy and I are mew to Bass fishing so our problems are probably due to this. Thanks all!! Quote
quanjig Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Use the search function and look at past posts on the res. lots of good info! Quote

Thought they were bass at first but if you notice they are more bronze/silver than the green color of a Bass. Quote

Was frustrating not hooking anything and seeing those monsters jumping. Quote
bluezed Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 Yeah those are most likely carp. They like to jump for whatever reason. Quote
RPK Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Morning every one! Just stumbled on this post and was wondering if any of you have ever tried lake Mercer? I see a couple of you fish Huntsman, and the two lakes are close by. I've been hitting Mercer right before sun up the last two weekends and have been doing well with the SPRO frog. LOVE TOPWATER! Always looking for some one to fish with, so if anyone is interested hit me up! Here is my biggest from yesterday, guessing 4.5 -5.0 lbs? Quote
BB* Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Figured it was time to register since I've learned a few things from this thread. Hemlock in Clifton is a good shore fishing location, for those without boats. You have to walk a bit but it can pay off. Hopefully get a small boat one of these days as using a Jon boat from Lake Ridge Marina is nice, but sucks at the same time. Anyway, went to Hemlock today and caught a bunch of smallmouth bass, best being a 2lb'er. 2 Quote
s freud Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 That's some clear looking water! Welcome to the site! Quote
Bongos Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Bank fishing in Reston yesterday. It swallowed the hook but I got it out and he lives to get caught another day. 1 Quote

BB* Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 That's some clear looking water! Welcome to the site! Thanks. Its been murky for the last couple of weeks. Finally cleared up enough to start seeing more features on the bottom. I think this is the place. http://alltrails.com/trail/us/virginia/hemlock-overlook-regional-park Thats the place. Its a lot of walking, but worth it. I've caught both large and small mouth down there. 1 Quote
shsabres Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Hey Nova anglers. Shameless plug here but I am selling a twice used Humminbird 110 portable fish finder. Only putting here as well as marketplace, but prefer to sell local than to ship. Ill be placing it in marketplace but if any of you are interested let me know. Thanks. Quote
Bongos Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I caught this hawg yesterday in a corporate pond in Chantilly. 4.5lbs according to my scale. That was it for the day but it was worth it. Was only out there for 2 hours. My personal best so far. Quote
