J33wolf Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Hello Folks, After quite a long hiatus in the fishing game I have gotten the itch again. It is funny how you forget how much you loved something as a kid growing up. I haven't really seriously fished since 1995. But now that my son is almost four I have been introducing him to the sport. After taking him a few times to the local pond at Virginia Tech i realized how much I have missed fishing. I dug out my spinning rods and reels and cleaned up my tackle box and started researching here on Bass Resource. I cannot tell you how much I have learned in the past 3 months. There is an incredible wealth of knowledge in these forums. In the past three months I have upgraded my gear to include two new Shimano Spinning Reels, a new Baitcasting Reel (a first for me) and have fell in love with St. Croix rods. I now own a Triumph for lightweight setup, Mojo Bass for Baitcasting and a new Avid for a spinning set up. My favorite baits so far this summer have been the StrikeKing Swim Jig with a Baby rage Craw Trailer and a 4" Weightless Senko Texas rigged. The Bluegill Swim Jig and the Pumpkin with Blk and Grn Flake Senko have been really working well for me. My son also caught his first LMB on a weightless senko on his little 2 foot pole. Check out my profile pic for his catch. Anyway thank you to the BR staff and everyone else for sharing the information. Cheers, JW Quote

Super User Sam Posted July 18, 2013 Super User Posted July 18, 2013 YOU FISHED THE VIRGINIA TECH PONDS!!!!! That's great. I have seen the ponds on campus maps but never have fished any. In fact, I was told theyhad no fish in it. Great news there are bass in some of the ponds. I only thought of fishing them when I went for a football game but never took the time to give them a try. Nice having you with us. Lots of places to fish in Virginia. Ask your questions and we will do all possible to give you our input and you give us your input. Quote
