Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted July 15, 2010 Super User Posted July 15, 2010 I can't say I disagree with you on those two situations and I understand why you would have issues with how it was handled. For the record, I just had to look up the definition of "snarky," and I was incorrectly defining the word. I didn't realize that it meant "sarcastic." I agree with you that there is quite a bit of sarcasm that is thrown around on here. However... I now find this thread thoroughly ironic, given the original poster. Didn't really want to single a person out, but I feel it is valid at this point due to them starting this discussion. I feel that if it is going to be pointed out as a problem for others, sometimes the mirror needs to be turned around. Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted July 15, 2010 BassResource.com Administrator Posted July 15, 2010 I think this thread has made it clear that if you make a fun jab at somebody, make a sarcastic comment, or make innuendos, then either it's going to go over their heads, or somebody is going to misinterpret it. This is why it makes it so difficult for the mods and I to make rulings on "offensive" remarks. We must look at the context, poster's history, and verbiage amongst other things to make a determination. And at the end of the day, somebody's going to disagree with the ruling - every time. There's just no way everybody is going to be happy in those circumstances. So we're used to it. That said, if you're going to make snarky comments, then know that it's probably going to sideways on you regardless of intent. Quote
Blue Streak Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Sometimes I think we need a rule for this board that states Any member who has a disagreement or an issue with another member has to fish with that person or persons for a day. I think it would be real hard for two guys to spend the day together fishing and not finish the day as friends. It is true that the emotion or true meanings of the words written here are lost at times. Only a very gifted writer can write in such a way that we can feel the emotion of the words. Or somethings are written to be funny and the humor is lost. So maybe we should not take things so personal and be a little more thoughtful of the things we write. By the way the rest of that rule should state that the parties should stop and have a beer together on the way home. Quote

I've crossed the line before (couple times) and never had a problem with a post getting deleted. If that happens I know I need to throttle back some or just STFU. Quote

Emoticons, emoticons, emoticons! 8-) A huge difference in how something is interpreted when they are used. Quote
gar-tracker Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I get a kick out of comments on baits, colors, rods reels etc.. That subject depends on so many variables. How a guy in Florida can bash a guy in Minnesota for using a specific color, or rod and reel, is beyond me. On line fisherman, go figure. Quote

Well, ya, we do take that into consideration. Some folks have a history of stirring the pot on purpose, others mean well, but it comes out the wrong way when they write it. Still others have a history of joking around, and sometimes their jokes come across differently to a new person. Conversely, we also look at who is doing the complaining. Most of the time, the complaints have merit, but sometimes there's a history between the poster and the complainant, so one guy is just trying to get the other in trouble. Rather petty to be sure, but it does happen occasionally. In addition, some folks are easily offended, and hit the notify button often. Sometimes they're spot-on, but often we have to talk them down. We take these factors and more into consideration. I can't see we're perfect, but we try to be fair all the time. Quote
