Super User iabass8 Posted July 14, 2013 Super User Posted July 14, 2013 68mxf curado 51e 4/0-5/0 ewg sometimes adding a 1/16 or 1/8 oz tungesten weight if i want to go deeper in grass instead of over it but more times than not i fish it weightless 12# fluoro. i've used braid and it worked fine but just prefer fluoro. either or works fine. pearl white, baby bass, watermelon red are my favorites. there really is no wrong way to fish a fluke. throw it over grass, weeds, into school fishing, shallow, deep. twitch, twitch, pause. most strikes come on the pause. make sure it's rigged on the hook perfectly straight. it will walk the dog better. 1 Quote
buzzfrog Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 when I went to get my fluke and small plastic setup, I went all out academy to test there products. So I have the mettle, 6 gear ratio, with a 6'10 rod MHF, with 30 lb braid, I do weightless, with a bullet weight, and the bell type late on the hook with this setup. If am I using a it on a big jig head I have a big H 7 ft rod, but mainly the way I fish it is with light stuff. hook size depends on size of bait, I usually do 4/0 to 5/0 EWG owner twist lock. Quote
Kevin22 Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 I fish mine as subsurface/topwater. For subsurface (less than a foot under the surface) I use a 6'4 ML Fast baitcaster, 8lb line, a 4/0 EWG hook, and a 4.5-5" fluke. I use this in open water. For fishing them as topwater, I use a 7' M Fast baitcaster with 14# mono, a 4/0 WORM HOOK, and a 4.5-5" fluke. For the topwater, I am making the bait jump out of the water and walk around on the surface. I use it mostly in pads or when I see bass chasing bluegills in weeds. Quote
Grantman83 Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 High speed reel, dobyns champion 683c, 15lb invizx and a 4/0 EWG hook Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 4/0 Twistlock hooks work great and baits last longer. 1 Quote

Stingray23 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I use a 6'10" med/fast spinning rod with 8-10lb Invizx fluoro on my spinning reel. I use a 3/0-4/0 gamakatsu EWG hook and fish the fluke weightless and with a fast, erratic retrieve. My favorite colors are pearl white, albino, chartruese pearl, glimmer blue, disco violet, white ice, pearl/chartruese tail. Quote

Good Stuff, iabass8! Take the necessary time to rig it straight. This can't be overstated enough. Quote

Revival Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Try an internal nail weight.. Haven't nosed weighted one since. Mike Where do you insert the nail weight? This is what i might need as i have given up on my flukes trying to fish them weightless. Quote

In the back, just below where the hook point rest's on top for a horizontal fall or just past the nose for a more verticle one. I use either ribbed finishing nail's or the packaged short ones. Go slow when you put it in, theres not a lot of room. Mike Quote
Drewski73 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Right now in Houston its 100 every day, and I fish shallow community ponds. I go stealth fluking. 7'6" M spinning rod 12lb braid-8lb invisix leader connected via swivel Zoom Super Fluke Jr in Disco Violet or Baby Bass Gamakatsu 1/0 EWG My bigger flukes stopped drawing strikes weeks ago. I love the presentation, so I adapted until I caught fish. This is whats been working for me lately. Quote

Rigging it straight is the key. It will spiral otherwise. Not a very natural baitfish when that is happening. Also ... don't underestimate the power of a slow and steady reeling presentation. Reel it slowly so it stays close to the bottom. Pause it from time to time. It's KILLER! I was able to make this work for me up north. Now I can't stop fishing the fluke. Quote
EvanT123 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 6'8 m/f spinning rod 10lb braid 3/0 ewg or 6'6 mh/f bait caster depending on what's already tied on either rod. Quote

Jay Ell Gee Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 I skip small flukes on spinning gear aswell I skip only with a spinning reel, as I'm not talented enough to skip with a baitcaster. That setup is a 6'8 M/XF St. Croix Mojo Bass Wacky Rod, a 2500 Shimano Sahara and 20lb PowerPro. Quote
