Marber4 Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 I have just moved to Boynton Beach and am looking for some good spots to do some bank fishing. I have been to Lake Osborne and Lake Ida and have done alright there, just looking for a smaller pond to fish. Something in a neighborhood that is not gated and has a spot to park and area on the bank that I would not be in someone's back yard. I have looked on this site and read about a few spots but they had GPS markings that did not work when I clicked on it. This site has great information and I just want everyone to know that I'm not trying to steal there spots, but figure with all of the ponds I see on Google earth there are plenty to go around. I only catch and release. If anyone could give me some info it would be greatly appreciated and I will post what I find. Quote
rvadog Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 What I have done in my new neighborhood is get on google maps. You should be able to see al the local bodies of water. If you see a local pond you can switch to the satelite mode and zoom in to see if there is shore access. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 15, 2013 Super User Posted July 15, 2013 There isn't much in that area, the canals have better shore access. There are some ponds in the Quantum lakes area that hold some nice bass, but access is limited. Many of the places say no fishing or trespassing, but people fish them all the time, Hagen ranch rd just south of Hypoluxo, you can fish lake Charleston, no one should bother you there, nice fish there too. Marber4 Posted July 15, 2013 Author Posted July 15, 2013 Thanks. Yeah I have been looking on Google earth a lot and have found a few places this way. Its just hard to know if the lake has good bass or not. I have been to some lakes and fished for a couple hours without a bite and don't know whether to rule it out or be more persistent because they may have just not been biting at that time. I don't want to be fishing a lake that turns out was just cut out a few years ago and has nothing but small fish. A perfect example is I actually live in quantum lakes and have fished here a couple times for a couple hours each time and have got nothing but a few weak bites. Now I know thanks to sirsnookalot that I need to keep trying. I also just went to lake Charleston this weekend and I did good there. The weeds are thick from shore to about 30 feet out so it makes it limit the lures you can use out there. They definetly have fish though. As I was driving around scouting the area I started talking to a couple guys using shiners from the dock and one hooked about a six pounder. Will go back for sure. I also don't mind driving to west palm, del ray, Boca, etc. I was actually talking about your post sirsnookalot where you marked a spot off of yamato but I couldn't see the point you marked. Thanks for the info and any more that anyone has. I'm going to give quantum lakes a shot again tonight. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 15, 2013 Super User Posted July 15, 2013 I had a friend fishing Quantum lakes by the apartments saying he had caught bass 7-8 lbs there, he went there often. Yamato probably at the park west of 441, first pond with all the pads, I pulled a lot of some real nice bass there. Quote
Marber4 Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 I'll have to try that spot out. I don't mind driving for fish. Went to quantum and again nothing. Followed it up by going to Charleston and caught 3 in a hour. Seems like a good spot. Would be nice to have a boat or nice quiet kayak to get out past the weeds and shallow water around shore. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 16, 2013 Super User Posted July 16, 2013 I would not judge a fishing spot by the production you are getting this time of year, it all changes once the weather starts cooling down. I'm doing very little bass fishing except in my own community ponds, with the heat and slow bite it really isn't worth devoting too much energy, especially with the saltwater bite improving. In the general area of Gateway and Jog there are several lakes that hold nice bass, S/E corner park at the synagogue and walk across the street. Just east both across the street and adjacent to the school are good fishing lakes, parking is a problem on Saturday or Sundays you can park in front of the locked school gate. On the S/W corner at the water department that little pond holds fish too. I have caught fish at every place I've mentioned, I literally have dozens upon dozens of spots to fish between Boynton and Boca. You may want to try the canal at Caloosa park, it holds peacocks, Congress just south of Woolbright. Quote
Marber4 Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 Yeah I am definitely not trying to judge each spot by the success I'm having right now. It is definitely hit or miss. I will have to try those spots off of jog road. I drive by them all of the time and wonder how they are. There are so many ponds in south Florida and they pretty much all have fish. Just looking for that consistent spot with good sized fish. Guess I'm looking at the wrong time of year. That canal behind caloosa looks like a good spot. Right at a junction in the canal that leads to ida and a bridge right there. Some of the things you want to see for sure. I'll have to check that out soon. Thanks Quote
fstr385 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 There are a couple canals that end in small lakes right off the turnpike on either side of the 45th st overpass a little north of boynton on the nb side. The north one is filled with pads, and the south one is moderate and part is covered with the overpass to fish a shady area in the daytime. Ive stopped there a few times on the way to jobs up north and got a bunch of fish, but none more than a few pounds. Theres a break in the guard rail to back into from the em lane and park on the other side of the rail. The only downside is the water is very clear, so bites under your feet are hard to get. Quote
Marber4 Posted July 17, 2013 Author Posted July 17, 2013 Thanks. I just looked that up on Google earth. Looks like it should be a good spot. I see you are from Margate. I've caught some nice fish down there at a park that is at a T in the canal. I forget the name though. You have to walk a little bit through some woods away from the park. A lot of vegetation but the bass were destroying the zoom toad I was using. Lots of fun but quite a hike for me. Quote

Not many spots from the bank though. Quote
