Fireguyfrank58 Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Got my new rod in yesterday so I had to try it out ASAP. I went to my local hole at sunlight before shift this morning and caught 5. I was there about an hour. My biggest was jus over a pound but they all fought nice. My only comparison is between my *** and my Veritas. The *** is MUCH lighter. It feels like half the weight. With the lower weight it feels to me like this transfers into better feel and sensativity. The slightest tap can be felt on the bottom with my T rigs. Both rods are 7'3 MH rods. It took me a few casts to get the feel of casting with the lighter weigh rod. I guess the most impressive part to me is that I caught 2-3 fish on the cast about 4-5 inches under the surface and I knew 100% I had a bite. The shaking and bumps were clearly transferred through the rod. Very impressed so far. On a side note the fluoro worked a lot better as well. Invizix Quote

Am I missing something? I cast right, one handed, and reel right. Always have so it feels natural by now. Quote

Im Not sure about everyone else, but i dont know many people who have there hand near the trigger when casting, i have one hand on the upper split grip, and the other on the bottom split grip. If that makes sense.. try that and see how it feels? Quote
bass1980 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 I don't know if the *** is lighter than the Veritas or not. I both of them in 7'3 MH. The one thing is for sure is that the *** balances out way better. That may be why peope are thinking the Omens are lighter. Sold all my Veritas for Omens, that should tell you how I feel about these rods. 1 Quote

Only thing different is i put the trigger between my middle and ring finger when palming the reel. I am still trying to figure out how to hold it being its my first baitcaster. Quote

I have a 6'6" medium casting. What kind of cranks? I have only shallow cranks but haven't used it yet. Probably tomorrow. If I do I'll let you know unless you are looking for something else? Quote

Keep in mind, it was my second time using the ***. Anyways to me it performed fine. One thing I noticed though is that I couldn't really feel the vibration of the squarebill. When using my St Croix Premier I could feel it like no other. Now I don't know if this is a good thing or bad? I know the *** has been compared to $200 rods but I never owned one or tried one so I don't know what that feels like. I can say that when my finesse worm got bit, I definitely felt the bite! The rod is a little stiffer than the Premier which I like and it feels more powerful. If anyone would like to comment about the sensitivity please feel free as I would like to understand it. Quote

Hogsticker Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I had a 6'10 Med. Just sold it. It had no problems picking up that vibration from a rattle bait. I was using braid and the rod felt a little to tight in the tip for me. Enough backbone though. I think it would make a better spinnerbait rod, fluke/senko, light jigging up to 3/8 oz. It wasn't the reel seat that bugged me, rather how thin the handle grip was. A bit awkward. I kept one that will be my primary senko stick Quote
