I spend 2 weeks in Wisconsin fishing prespawn smallies every year. There is a particular Lucky Craft bait that for the last several years has out fished everything else. It is VERY difficult to find this bait.  I can't find them in any tackle stores, I can only find them online and then only a couple of online stores stock them. I am also concerned that because of it's scarcity, the bait might get discontinued. The lake I fish also has pike and muskies. There is a good chance, to lose a lure or two to these toothy fish. In order to be sure that I am never without it, I now have 10 of them. It took me 2 years to locate them as the few places that carry them usually only have a couple in stock. I hope that 10 will be enough to last me a while.

If it's a bait that's readily available I'll buy an extra one or two if it's something that's really working or that I'll use often. If it's something being discontinued I'll buy dozens at times if I have lots of confidence in it.

When I go buy my stuff, ill get 2 or 3 if its something that really produces for me. It really just depends on what it is, if Iv never used it. I went out today, and bought 2 scatter raps to check out. One in a silver color option, and one in bluegill.

When I find a new lure that's a hot fish catcher I will order more the minute I get home after the fishing trip

I try yo keep a well stocked supply of all my hottest lures. I also worry about then being discontinued like the bomber FAT  A  and the BPS, XPS Topnocker. Luckily I have a few left in my stash. The bomber with the colors in craw and bass colors are being fazed out too. These colors have been offered for many years.

Even today there my go to colors.  There still hot even today. So when we have an awesome fish catching l8tr

My point is we have to have extras so we can have the continued success.

Id say buy as many as u can get away with! More often than not, companies discontinue baits regularly and seasonally, i had some baits tht were hot n i didnt buy them whn i cud n thot id buy some later, well guess what? They discontinued th bait n cud only b found in a clearance rack! Sold quick!! Now i hold on to those ones i got left! Some baits work better than others At certain lakes when th bite is tuff and some baits js dont produce like th new ones, 1 example being pre-repala wiggle warts, another is the older bagleys. I always buy my plastics in 2s, cz u never kno when ur gonna use th whole bag on one trip, but just like anything else in this situation, sat works for u is gonna b the best adivice.

If I can get it locally, I'll buy a spare of each color and then pick up another if I loose one. If I have to order, a minimum of 3 in each color. Learned my lesson a few times.

I normally buy 2-3 of everything, even if I have not yet fished it.  Then if I like it, or catch fish on it, who knows.  Too many.  Ask anyone who has fished with me.  If I am catching fish on something they might not have, I ALWAYS have plenty for them, and most of the times in several colors.  Its a bad habit, but better for my health than other habits!!!!

I think if you are buying a new crank bait, you've got to buy 3 of them.  One to use, one for a back up and the third for your reserve supply.  Soft plastics though, I literally got hundreds of single bags of a product.  Some make the traveling team, most linger in plastic shoe boxes, stored in my fishing shed.

In addition, you've got to recognize the curative powers of buying extra fishing tackle.  Every time my deep seated self esteem issues rise to the surface, I buy myself some fishing tackle and I feel better - for a few minutes.  Works for me.

It's called retail therapy.  I learned it from my sisters and former girl friends.

2-3 but for some reason when I am away from water, I buy more to make myself closer to fish, lol yea a busted theory :)

Well I went to academy sports last Friday and I had no choice! So much stuff on clearance! I bought a lot of stuff...

I laughed at this one. I feel you bud... "I had no choice babe... everything was on clearance! I don't know HOW I spent $150!!!"

If it's something that I've caught a lot of fish on in a certain condition I will make sure I have 3 total in the same color.

I try to have at least 2 of everything and at least 4 of the baits I use a lot and have confidence in. I try to keep baits in 3 or so key colors so it doesn't get too out of control.

since i always seem to always have a boatmate and fish tournaments sometimes. i pick up 2 or 3 so i can share the pattern.

I just finished up my restock in crankbaits for this year mainly discontinued colors. Now I'm on to the new and discounted plastics,  senko type mister twister comida's,  phenom worms, tubes and grub trailers.

I'm buying the phenom worms with the solid colors and the two tone with the fire, chartreuse,  bright colored tails.

My next stock up will be brushogs.

With two more weeks to get the doctors release to go fishing I need to change all my line, clean up my tackle room.  And change my tackle boxes around  to add new lures. I'm going to try the Chinese lures out soon. I will check to see if there tuned or not. There finish does look great.

I do clean my tackle boxes every fall so there kept oderless.

I don't have any one "fish catcher," so I go with variety most of the time. I'll get a new lure, and buy just about every color that appeals to me. Most often that's some craw, shad, or green/blue shiner pattern.

My dad always told me a minimum of 4.  1 for you and a back up in case you loose it, and 1 for your buddy/partner and a back up for them.
