Chatterbaits must be the topic of the day, so here I go. I've got a small club tournament this weekend and need some tips on the proper use of a chatterbait. I'll be fishing a fairly clear lake with lots of weeds and grass out to about ten feet deep. I have several of the 3/8 ounce chatterbaits and expect to have a few of the 1/2 ounce Booyah version on the way. Any advice will be appreciated.

You can slow roll them, burn them, and Pump or stroke them. I like fishing a 1/4 once around and thru the grass. the 3/8 down to around 6 to 10 ft.

Good luck with them

I've caught several dozen Va. bass this year already at weedy lakes with the Chatterbait. I prefer the 1/4 for that presentation. I add a double curlytail white trailer to a white skirt and crome blade. To get maximun vibration do as Rick Morris suggested, use braid.

I've found the Booyah of the same weight as a Chatterbait rides higher in the water column. You might want to keep that in mind.

You can try any of the retrieves mentioned already. You can also try pitching it to specific areas like you would a regular jig and snapping it off the bottom.

Aslo you can experiment with different trailers like craws and flukes.

Good luck.

You tie the line on the snap. If the lure is rolling it want act right. I have heard that some of the baits will do this right out of the package. That is why I fish the Southern Shaker.  They are well balanced and are guaranteed not to roll. Here is there web site.

Thanks everybody for the help. Fished my club tournament yesterday and the Booyah Boogee chatterbait impressed me and put six good keeper bass in the livewell. Amazing! The bite shutdown after a couple of hours, but boy it was a blast while it was on. I didn't win, but at least my slump is over!
