I cant see to get this one right. I've been trying a frog for quite a while now and haven't had any success.

The gear I'm using is 7' medium heavy action paired with a 7.1 gear ratio baitcaster and 50 lbs braided line.

I'm pretty sure my gear is right but I'm open for a suggestion. Also what technique do you guys use?

Your gear is fine. Fish may not be home, or care for the offering. As far as technique goes, you can walk the frog, twitch and stop, or burn it on top of the  grass or pads. Basically work it different ways and sees what gets a response. Nothing happens after a while change to another lure. Good Luck.

Was just at a seminar by Gerald Swindle, he recommends that if the mat is not popping" baitfish, bream and other life" keep moving until you find an active mat. This may help.

The only difference in your gear and mine is that I use a heavy action rod.

A M/H can work just as well.

Explain this a little bit better

Explain this a little bit better

Bugs and tiny baitfish and shrimp hang out in the grass mats. Bluegill follow to get an easy meal, and bass follow the bluegill. To see if aquatic grass has life, grab a handful and sort through it. If there are little bugs you are fishing in the right place.

That does not mean you cannot catch bass in lifeless weeds. They wll go into the weeds on a hot day with bluebird skies to get out of the sun.

Put your frog in good spots where you usually catch bass and you will get one eventually. When you get a blowup, wait until you see your line moving and set the hook. I can guarantee that you will miss ish when you first start getting hits on frogs, but you will get better at waiting.
