Bass Junkie Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Has anyone here had experience with this bait? I just recently picked one up and had it break within an hour and eight fish under 15" the pin connecting the first and second segments popped out of the body, right through the plastic and everything. I'd hate to think about what would happen if a big Smallie smashed it and grabbed the rear hook I am wondering if this is just a defect, or if this is a consistent problem... I've heard good reviews about them, but TackleTour had problems with the original Tru-Tungsten swimbaits in the durability department. Not trying to bash anyone, just looking for feedback. So in your experience is this a defect or a real problem? Quote
dman Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 if i remember correctly, when i took mine out of the package i think the pin might have been loose....I think its shipped that way so you can easily set it up how you want it (with the added balls or without). i added them and put the pin back in nice and tight and havent had a problem Quote
etommy28 Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I have not had a problem and I use them a lot and have caught fish over 8 pounds on them, it was most likely a defect, take it back to where you got and asked to have it returned or exchanged. Quote
Bass Junkie Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 -dman: The resin body broke, the pin did not fall out. Sorry for not making myself clear :-[ -etommy28: Are you refering to the 7" one? With the $50 price tag? Quote
etommy28 Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 no I perfer the 4 inch but the big one does work also Quote
Bass Junkie Posted July 13, 2010 Author Posted July 13, 2010 -etommy28: Cool. Glad to hear that. Just made me wonder for a second if we were on the same page... Thanks Quote
gobig Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I have never owned a true tungsten bait. I probably never will either. I like the Idea of buying quality baits from U.S. made manufacturers (all though I do own my fair share of BBZ's). The customer service is unparalleled. For just a little more money there are better options out there. Quote
NateFollmer Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Have you ever had an issue with Tru-Tungsten gobig or have someone you knew had an issue? I have used just about all of their products (except their soft plastics) and I have never had 1 issue. I like buying USA products also, but I don't avoid products just because they aren't made here. TT makes some really good products and I'm sure Bass Junkies issue will be fixed. Quote
brushhoggin Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 if you bend that pin slightly before re inserting it, it'll stay in Quote
Hornytoad 10 Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 The exact same thing happened to me on my first cast with this bait, I was PO'd, never even caught a fish on it!!! > Quote
Primus Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I've nailed a couple of good ones on the 5" bait in the Bluegill color (weighted as a fast sink) in limited use, excited about the baits potential. Quote
Scorcher214 Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I inserted all the weights, so it sank faster and then used super glue on the end of the pin because it seemed a little loose. Quote
gobig Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Have you ever had an issue with Tru-Tungsten gobig or have someone you knew had an issue? Personally no. I have used their weights for punching in the past. I know people who have had issues. I like buying USA products also, but I don't avoid products just because they aren't made here. If I find a product that is made here and its equal to or better. I will AVOID the FOREIGN born products. You want to see the economy change? BUY LOCAL, BUY AMERICAN when you can. Quote
Bass Junkie Posted July 14, 2010 Author Posted July 14, 2010 I'm guessing there has been a misunderstanding.... The pin ripped the resign hinges out of the body. The metal hinges on the back of the head were fine, but the "hinges" on the front of the rear segment were busted. I had no problem with the pin coming out the right way. Hope this clears it up. Glad to hear others are having good success with it. I contacted Tru-Tungsten and they are taking care of the problem, so I have no problem with them, although response time was a bit slower than Mattlures : Quote

Oh I agree with you there, but buying anything from the US, made here or not, is going to help our economy. Yes, it will help more if it's made here though. I wasn't being smart either, I was just asking Some people have 1 bad experience with a company and then swear them off altogether. If everyone did this, AT&T would be out of business! HA but I digress... Quote
gobig Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I was not trying to smear tru tungsten at all. I just think there are better swimbaits that are made here. There are quite a few really good swimbait companies who make their product right here in the U.S. and they back their products up. Most of the baits are hand made so the quality control is much higher. They have fast response time and in many cases your talking to the guy who made the bait. I know that its virtually impossible to buy everything based on where its made. And if a product out performs its competition, I buy it, no matter where its made. Like I said earlier "I own my fair share of BBZ baits". There is a reason for that. They work. All I am saying is that I make a conscious effort to buy American Made. Quote
