Well I don't blame you on the rod issue, but lots of guys are using 20 on braid, some use 10, I was spooled with 10, but back to 20, now.... I have been looking at the stradic micro braid reel you can go down to 2 pound braid on it? But changed my mind, I like the standard 1000 too... So much cool stuff to buy!

yea this is a Stradic 2500 standard spool on a ml cumara. My pride and joy combo all the break offs are killing me. I'd rather break of sections of leader than ruin 30ft at a time... Kinda what I'm getting at.

For me 15# braid and 10# Vicious flouro.  Lighter braid gave me fits with tangles and lighter leader would pop on the hookset. I use an Improved Albright knot for the leader.  I also use this for the neko rig, which is my go-to rig for plastics.

if water is super clear try 6 lb fluro .... if its not super clear go with 8 lb fluro... I always use flouro when dropshotting.

+1 ...Braid has NO slack line sensitivity ! Straight fluoro is the only way to go ...

Yea, but dropshot is a straight down presentation, whereby shouldn't be a problem with excessive slack as far as braid is concerned as far as line diameter from 10 to 20 pd. braid, the diffrence in the water won't matter, the deal is it will matter on the reel and possibly at the knot, I have better control with 20.

I sling ds rigs all the time with success.  The drop shot rig is one that people tend to place limits on.  Its not a one trick pony.

Just want to clear it up, I resurrected thread. Have been using 6# FC for a few years now. Just looking for a alternative. Due to my gutsy approach of casting right into a downed tree with a wacky rigged senko on 6# and having a gazillion hangups and break offs. I need a alternative to save money on line. lololol

Braid and leader is ideal in wood. It's a strong enough system to get the fish away from cover quickly, but if you get hung on wood, you can break off without dragging the tree to the boat or disturbing the spot. If you pay attention, you can feel the connection knot pass over the limbs. It really helps you know where your bait is. Same goes for fishing a jig or Texas rig plastic in wood.

I've used straight 6# FC last year and decided to try to switch to braid and a FC leader this year. Didn't like the braid to fc at first but it's growing on me a little. At this point though, I'd say I still like straight FC better.
