MXHalofan Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Been looking at trolling motors on CL and got two choices. Like to know what others think of using tiller control TM on the bow of my 24 foot toon. It's 82lb thrust 24v model. The other I've come up with is a 50lb thrust 24v foot control model. The tiller model is about an extra $100. Pick one please. Thanks Quote
MXHalofan Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 Also, I've got 2 awg aluminum insulated wire. What kind of inline fuse or circuit breaker should I install? Be nice to learn how others setup connectors for 24v systems. Anyone got some links or info. Please help so I can get up and running. Quote
Kevin22 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 If those are your two options, I would go for the 82 hand control. It may slow you down having to reach down to use it.. but I wouldnt want to pull a pontoon around with a 50lb. As for wiring, its very simple. You just buy the minnkota parts necessary, I think they even have a kit! Check their website. Quote
MXHalofan Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 Well this one just came up. How's this mount to my boat? Four bolts? What kind of foot control is that? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 11, 2013 Super User Posted July 11, 2013 That's a Terrova electric steer. 4 bolts to mount Quote
Kevin22 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Make sure you get the correct shaft, you may not be able to reach the water with a standard shaft from a pontoon! Quote
MXHalofan Posted July 12, 2013 Author Posted July 12, 2013 Gave $450 delivered for this Terrova 60" shaft from a local off CL. Pumped. Even has an extra transducer. He said he had a buyer lined up for tomorrow evening for $400. So I emailed him $450 delivered and that got it. Checkout my $80 Fishmark 320 that came today in the mail. Seems a little akward next to the TM. Might have to upgrade sooner than I thought. Gonna install this weekend. This 2awg might be too heavy LOL. Quote
Kevin22 Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Wait a minute, $450 for a $1400 motor plus he just gave up his transducer (another $80)? Something smells REAL fishy here. You should have met him at his house, ripping motors off boats and selling cheap on craigslist is a big time scam right now. Quote
MXHalofan Posted July 12, 2013 Author Posted July 12, 2013 Nothing fishy here. Best you worry about your own deals. Just because someone got a good deal doesn't mean it's stolen and it's certainly not your place to allude that it could be. This seller is a local with good knowledge of local lakes. And he had this well listed for two weeks. If someone had one stolen, it would have taken two minutes to find this one online. He told me he just upgraded. Very common to hear of people upgrading TM's. Especially lately it seems with all the new gadgets available. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 12, 2013 Super User Posted July 12, 2013 If the foot pedestal is getting in your way go with the tiller. Otherwise stick with the foot pedestal. Quote
