Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted July 11, 2013 Super User Posted July 11, 2013 For the past couple weeks I've been fishing a private pond that is rarely fished. There's lots of smaller bass in the 12-14 inch range but it seems like these fish are putting un quite an extraordinary fight considering their size. I've caught lots of similar fish at the other lakes that I fish (these lakes see a lot more fishing pressure) and the ones from the private pond are much more feisty. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and why this might be. Quote
GeorgiaBassBros Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Ive also experienced this in similar ponds. The fish seem to fight unnaturally hard for how big they are. I have no clue what causes it Quote
Super User Solution Sam Posted July 11, 2013 Super User Solution Posted July 11, 2013 Pond fish don't have to fight current or constantly move around seeking shelter and food. Although small they are probably in better physical health than bass in lakes and rivers. Over population is the main problem with ponds as we all practice catch and release. When you catch a pond bass take a close look at it and you will see that it is very healthy, although small. Quote

Even though they're small, they have all been really robust good looking fish and they're all nice and heavy so you can tell they've been eating good. Quote
hooah212002 Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 I've experienced this too. The local "trout" pond has so far only yielded 2-3 pounders, but I swear they fight better than the 4-5 pounders on the main lake. More of them too. When I get on the 4-5 pounders on the main lake, they tend to just play dead half way through. Quote
