Backwoodsbasser Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 So the other day I snagged a crankbait with 10lb flouro line. This was a month old abu Garcia hank Parker spinning rod. Granted its a cheap combo and cab be replaced for $50 I got it because I'm tight on cash right now but needed another spinning rod for lighter smallmouth applications. I love abu Garcia and use them almost exclusively but this rod has me bummed out. I'd think 10lb test would snap before the rod. I've heard of veritas snapping but my veritas has held up except for the tip guide which the insert fell out but that's an easy repair. This rod snapped in 2 at the second Guide down from the top and they want all kinds of stuff for a warranty replacement it's like they almost ask for so much as to discourage u from bothering. Has anyone else had rod snap and how did the warranty work? Quote

Super User Sam Posted July 11, 2013 Super User Posted July 11, 2013 The question is why did the rod snap? If you were using the approved line test and bait weight the rod should not have snapped unless there is a manufacturing defect. Just curious, what was the rod doing when it snapped? Casting? Fighting a fish? Closing a car window? Slamming a car door? Fighting a snag? What the rod was doing can give us insight into why it snapped. Let us know. Quote
CPBassFishing Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Send them an email with a description of how it broke, and 3 pictures. #1: proof of purchase (reciept of some form) #2: rod identification number #3: the break The should send you a brand new rod for a $9.95 shipping fee. I had a veritas break a while ago and they sent me one just for the shipping fee. Quote
Kevin22 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Call them. Tell them just what you told us, you bought the rod because you were on a budget and have had good luck with abu products. Tell them exactly what happened and ask if they can help you out. If you are super sincere they should help you out. Offer to send picture or whatever they need but tell them it would not be worth it to send a $50 rod in ($20 shipping + return postage) and they should tell you to just pay the $10 return postage and they will send you a new rod. They are really good about helping out their customers, especially if you mention you are a long term customer! Abu and daiwa are two companies that actually seem like they want to help. I broke a 1 year old diawa ike rod I got from TW for $70. I had no receipt or anything, I told them that and they said no problem.. just send us the rod and we will take care of you. About a week later I got a brand new team daiwa fuego spinning rod ($230 msrp) in the mail with a hand written letter explaining that they no longer had any ike rods and they hoped this would be okay for a replacement.
