LC-Pointer 78 Colors - Need Advice

I'm looking to purchase some Lucky Craft Pointers and hope you guys can help with color choices. I live in NC and rarely fish any "clear" water here. Most areas I would consider to be stained. Maybe 3-4 ft of visibility at best. What colors would you recommend? The majority of the forage here is Threadfin Shad. I'd like to use something a little different than the sexy shad color.

Hi Jason, with only 3 foot of visibility i think you have better options. the Pointer 78 is a great lure but is pretty small and works better in clear water.

I would normally agree with that statement but last year the guys that threw them here were money during spring and fall. Most of them use red & black but I was hoping to pick up some colors that could work and give the fish a different look. If I can't catch fish with them I'll put em' on here for sale.  ;D

They have a new color called Crack that might work well, you might also want to try Table Rock shad, American Shad and Chartreuse Shad.

Jason I am also from NC what lakes do you typically fish?  I might have fished them before and will be able to help you better.

Depending on how big the average sized bass is in the lakes you are fishing, I would go for a Pointer 100 in ghost minnow color. With this lure I tend to catch bigger bass but have less strikes. Not sure how big the bass get in NC, but anything bigger than a 100 would be specific for targeting some real lunkers

I would use the pointer 100 or 128 even and fish bright fire tiger or bright shad colors. I do think in that water clarity you would do a lot better on spinnerbaits or fat crankbaits, or lipless. If you are fishing plastics, go big and darker.

Primus - I saw the Crack color while I was sorting through all of LC's colors. I liked it too. Crack kills right?  ;D

Dock Master- I'll send you a PM. Anything that will help to consistently catch them would be great. These lakes here are feast or famine for us right now.

kLuo - I'm starting to think the 78 may be a touch small as well. We certainly have some lakes here that produce DD bass but they are very few and far between. We'll catch several between 3 & 5 lbs throughout the year but most fish we call "decent" here are 2 - 2.5lbs or so.

iceintheveins - I've had luck on spinnerbaits on several of the lakes we fish. No luck at all with firetiger which is strange I admit. Also no luck with the lipless cranks. I just can't get the feel for them and casting and retrieving just doesn't work it seems. Dark plastics are money if you are throwing green pumpkin or junebug, black as well. I had a Redemption spinnerbait that I LOVED but broke it off a couple of months ago. Grrr!  :-/

In any event your going to want to opt for something with a bright opaque finish and probably a dark back. Shiny chrome colors and clear bottom baits like ghost minnow will not be the best choice for murkish water you need some thing to contrast and stand out.Chartreuse shad and white baits work extremely well for me in tanic stained water around here. IMO some other good choices would be:table rock,chart-blue,rootbeer,matte-chart,bluegill,royal shad. (wow I really like that crack color! I just seen it,must be new)

Yeah you can still catch plenty of fish on these baits if they are on that bite and UP in the water column. The biggest difference is in in clear water they can see the bait far above them and choose to attack it. In dirtier water you are going to have to hit the fishs depth more precisely and get it nearer to them. I'd also use a bigger size than the 78 unless of course you know for a fact that they are feeding/chasing small tidbit forage.

(Don't ever paint a crankbait or jerkbait black for dirty water.It will never work )

jason.s try a pointer 128. The auora gold &  the auroa gold northern perch are good for stained water.
