das028 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I'm usually using a white or whit/chartuese color without a trailer. Was jus curious what is everybody else fav color in which situation. Do you use trailers? One thing I like to do, is buy a cheap wallmart jig and take the skirt off and but various plastics on them. I've had success doing this, especially for smallies in the potomac. Though that was years ago. Quote
Stren_g Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I usually use white or chartreuse with no trailer, and black if I'm night fishing or in muddy water Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted July 10, 2013 Super User Posted July 10, 2013 My favorite color wht and cht, cht and sk sexy shad color. Do not use trailers. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted July 10, 2013 Super User Posted July 10, 2013 I use a smaller 1/8oz spinner bait with a single silver blade with the larger or full size blue glimmer skirt. Then I use the mister twister 2" split double tail grub as a trailer, with a trailer hook. Then some yum shad scent and I'm good To go. I like the Colorado or Indiana blades better. Sometimes I. Go up one size in blade size for more thump. This seems to be the hot setup from shore but you need yo trim the grubs body to fit the hook on the spinner bait and put it on straight so the spinner bait doesn't spin. My stained water to slightly muddy water is the same setup except for a gold Colorado or Indiana blade With a chartreuse skirt, with a mister twister 2" split double tail grub trailer with a trailer hook. I like the larger sized blade for more thump in stained water. If you can't change the blade sometimes I borrow one from a larger spinner bait. Or just try it as is. If you can't find the 2" split double tail trailers them go with the 4" ones and trim them to fit the hook but leave the split double tail to size. Don't forget the yum shad scent. Now how you use it is very important. I try a slow reel above the sight line first. After a few casts I will slow up so it's below the sight line like in there face approach. Reel it just fast enough to keep the blade thumping. Holding the rod tip up and slow reeling the spinner bait will allow the blade to be out of the water slapping the water right and left as we reel it. This is the topwater presentation for over weeds. It's topwater action at its finest. There's something about that blade slapping that attracts fish. Even when my Joe's fly bass size blade slaps the water on the cast it calls fish. It's the cup of the blade that does this noise as it hits the water. My deepest thanks to Glenn here for advise on spinnerbaits I finally got the hang of it. People can guide you but it takes time to figure out a setup that works for your situation. Don't give up the fish will let you know when you get it right. Quote
nascar2428 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Black megastrike strikeback, no trailer or trailer hook. Quote
Stingray23 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I use white, white glimmer, wht/chart, and chartruese spinnerbaits 99% of the time. I also use a white zoom fat albert grub as a trailer 50% of the time. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted July 10, 2013 Super User Posted July 10, 2013 Ch/Wite Megastrike Strikeback 1/2 oz Quote
TNBassin' Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Chartreuse/white with a red trailer hook. 1/2oz with gold/silver willows. Quote
Lip 'em! Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Like the majority white/chartruese during the day and black with either red or blue at night. Sometimes will use a white twin tail grub on the white/chartruese ones, but this often leads to the spinnerbait not running perfectly straight. Always use a large black grub as a trailer on the black ones at night. Quote
TNBassin' Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I like a black and red spinner bait at night as well. Usually one with a large colorado blade(s) for more thump. Quote
Dyerbassman Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 A white/chartreuse with a few strands of orange works well for me. Quote
smallieking Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 chrome blade white skirt and chartuese trailer Quote
jtharris3 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 1/2 oz. Terminator Chrt/Wht or Chrt/Blue/Wht double willow leaf, gold blades. Usually no trailer. If I do use a trailer I'll use either a white split tail or a 4" white curly tail grub. Quote
Dpatt Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 My favorite spinner bait is a Bass Assault Citrus Shad. Type blades and colors of blades are determined by water clarity and or time of day i'm fishing.... Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 11, 2013 Super User Posted July 11, 2013 White with no trailer. I do like to use spinnerbaits with colored blades. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted July 11, 2013 Super User Posted July 11, 2013 I've got lots of different colors of spinner baits and I switch them out a lot. Recently I've been fishing clearer water (6.5' secchi disc reading) I've been fishing a gold/greenish head with a golden shiner skirt, double willow blades. Mixed results - the past month or so I really haven't found many decent fish shallow so there really hasn't been much of a spinnerbait bite to speak of. Quote
