lovecranking Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 When I use Yamamoto Fat Ikas fishing I catch a lot of bass (as I'm sure many of you do). One of the colors I have the most success with is the green pumpkin w/red (color #318). I went online to order some from GYCB but that color was no longer listed. So I checked all over the Interner but could not find that color anywhere. So I contacted Yamamoto and was told that color was only made for a few select stores and will no longer be made. When I told the person that I bought that color directly from the Yamamoto store online, the answer I got was if I wanted to buy that color as a special order, I'd have to order 1,000 bags. I told them I couldn't afford buying anywhere near that quantity, Yamamoto said that was the best offer they could make. So I'm asking all of you out there that buy and use Fat Ikas...is there anyone willing to sell me 10 bags of green pumpkin w/red #318? Thanks Quote
jtharris3 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Get them custom poured. He stated they would custom pour them for a 1,000 bag order. Quote
wngan9447 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Yup. My buddy has a stash left and brags about it. I have to trade two bags of whatever he wants for one bag of the 5 pack palm trees. Don't know why GYCB wouldn't just keep making this color. It's would easily be one of the most popular. Quote
Kevin22 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 He stated they would custom pour them for a 1,000 bag order. By a custom lure mfg.... lol Dozens of them out there that pour ikas, I used to. The hand poured version (dels mold) is deadly close to the fat ika and flat out catches fish. If I threw one to you in the boat I'd bet you couldnt tell it wasnt the real deal. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 10, 2013 Super User Posted July 10, 2013 Try 4" in 301 Make some phone calls. Cooch (Andy Cuccia) is a sponsored by Yamamoto and uses that color in the CA Delta...go online and give him a call. Tom Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 what size hook is everyone using on the ika? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 10, 2013 Super User Posted July 10, 2013 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook, thin wire. 1 Quote
Kevin22 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 4/0 EWG gama. Pretty thick body on them, I wouldnt feel comfortable with a worm hook. I used 3/0 EWG a few times but the 4/0 gave better hook-ups. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted July 10, 2013 Super User Posted July 10, 2013 4/0 Owner Rig-N hook. Same gap as a 4/0 EWG, but a shorter hook. Puts the hook point at the top of the bulge instead of behind. Much better hook-up ratio. Quote

Yeah but then it's not a REAL GYCB! Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted July 10, 2013 Super User Posted July 10, 2013 This forum must have read my mind. I just bought a pack and was literally was going to search for Ika information when I saw this post. There seems to be a bunch of ways to rig this thing. Here's one that I found on youtube which I like. Does anyone else do this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUdWSiv66w4 Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted July 10, 2013 Super User Posted July 10, 2013 This one is like a weedless Neko rig. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb7xQh_RnNo Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted July 10, 2013 Super User Posted July 10, 2013 This one is like a weedless Neko rig. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb7xQh_RnNo I rig mine like this vid but dont add any weight. The knot he uses I put the line through the eye twice then that 7 turn UNI knot, works great. I use 15# braid and it holds little past 20#. Oh depending on your wants for distance this rigged weightless easily flies past 100' and yes have caught many past that range. Quote
Kevin22 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I use ikas to skip under docks and fish them like a solid tube. Quote
jiggz125 Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Are there any baits that are similar to Fat Ikas? I cannot find them locally and want some for this weekend. I dont want to order off ebay/online. Thanks for the help. Quote

Thanks again Jackall cover craw Keitech salty core tube (siiiiiiiiiiick!) Lots of custom pour guys (doc Irving) Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 24, 2013 Super User Posted August 24, 2013 Maybe you need to plan ahead. When I get down to a couple of bags of the colors I particularly like, it's time to get a couple more. If you only have a spare bag of Green Pumpkin, you'll be fine. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/lake-guntersville-2012.html Quote
THE_Vue's Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Yeah that keitech salty core is one killer lure. Flares out so crazy looking but this is how i rig my ika's with a delmart mold. I remelt all my used plastic into the body mold and use any kind of punch skirt with a peg. Save me alot of money on ika's or else just go buy them at outlet tackle when they have deals going on, make sure to subscribe to there newsletter so they'll notify you everytime when they have discounts.
