However, not the same with all companies. I wanted a LH Tourny Pro in 5.1... NOPE! Team Lews, TL Gold? Nope.... Then, I go to buy a lety BB1 on ebay, 5.1, but it costs $10-$20 more for the LH models than the RH!!!! What gives??? Quote

It is irritating but I fish a different company's reels that seem to be offering more and more LH retrieves right off the bat. Quote

Righties reel with left hand, lefties reel with right hand. Why would you want to control the rod with your non-dominate arm? Usually the dominate side is a bit stronger, plus a bit more coordinated. I do have to say though that after trying the BPS PQ i am very impressed. THey have the same gear ratios for lefties as righties and will msot likely be the reels i buy when it is time to replace. For now, i am pretty good though with my citicas and one PQ i got for cranking in the 4.7:1 Quote

What advantage do you have by casting with your right and then switching the rod to your left? I would think real left handers would find right handed baitcasters to be a better fit for them. Back in the day the only offered right hand retrieve and think about your first Zebco....right hand retrieve. I just don't get how people use a right hand retrieve for baitcasters and a left hand retrieve for spinning gear. I reel left on everything from baitcasters to spinning to fly rods-just makes sense to me. Quote

Knightiac Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I don't even understand lefty reels... and I'm left handed. I use RH baitcasters and I place the handle on the right, for all my spinning reels. Cast with my strong arm (left) and reel with my weak arm (right). I don't understand the whole switching hands thing. I taught my buddy how to cast a baitcaster, and he is right handed. Naturally, he started casting with his left and reeling with his right when he realized how goofy it was. Quote

I can cast lefty, but not too accurate. It isn't the casting that tires me out. It is holding the rod for retrieving that will eventually tire me. It is hard for me to go fishing without carrying reels of each hand because I have likes in both camps. If I pitched, I would be better casting with the left hand as I have better feathering control on that side for some reason. Quote

My boys use left hand retrieve, but it seems awkward for me. I cast right handed, switch rod to my left hand while the lure is mostly in the air and reel right handed. Quote

What will move the fish during retrieval is placed to the strong hand!A baitcast is designed to be used as a winch, so it is the reel that retrieves the fish. Hence if you are right handed the handle is in your right hand. A spinning reel is designed to pick up unloaded or loose line, not retrieve the fish. Hence it is the rod that does the retrieval, so it is the rod that is in your strong hand. If you are right handed then the pole goes to the right hand. George Welcome Sebastian Florida 1 Quote

I never had trouble reeling right handed, but controling the rod and setting the hook with my left hand was awkward for me. I'm sure I could have gotten used to it if I gave it time but I can find all the LH reels I need to do my fishing. Quote
