BassinNCstyle Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I fish from kayak with only one baitcaster. I use it mainly for spinnerbaits or topwater. I want try a soft frog, is fluoro a bad idea? Any all around line you recommend? I guessI need to try braid but doubting my skill level with it on baitcaster even though I haven't tried it yet. Thanks! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 9, 2013 Super User Posted July 9, 2013 Try a spool of Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Most guys like it, some don't. Either way, it's am inexpensive experiment. I recommend #6 on spinning tackle, #12 for baitcasting gear. http://yo-zuri.com/Products/Yo-Zuri_Fishing_Line/details/Yo-Zuri_Hybrid.html Quote
Topwaterspook Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Floro line sinks. This makes it unsuitable for topwater fishing. Quote
loodkop Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Braid handles better than flouro and you don't need to thrash the line after a birdsnest. For anything involving soft frogs I would recommend braid in 50# and up. Quote

Arv Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I'd recommend braid. Fluoro sinks. Braid floats and will be good for spinnerbaits, most top waters and frogs. Quote
Christian M Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 If you only have one setup then braid is gonna be your best bet. Quote
BassinNCstyle Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 I have been a little intimated by braid on baitcaster because I read where it's takes more skill but I have gotten good with mono so maybe I need to face my fear and try it. Quote
ULG Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 id recommend a copoly line. it has different properties as there is no "one" real good line for everything, you can use flouro on a topwater, it does sink, pulls the nose of the bait in the water and impedes the action of the bait. if your gonna use braid for all applications you have to take into account the no stretch factor, maybe a softer rod when using certain baits so the rod makes up for the lack of stretch using braid, there is no right or wrong answer here but only mere experiences that we have had that work best for us, depending on size topwater ur planning in using, dont let anybody tell you that you cant use flouro. i use flouro on .25 oz poppers, my sexy dawgs, xpods, z-pops, n spooks. PM me for the trick! lol dont want to let it out on here since these other guys havent found it yet. Might see one of them n a tourney where the topwater bite is on! Quote
