catchnm Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I was just wondering why Zoom doesn't inject their plastics with any kind of scent. Most manufactures now either add to or inject their products with scent. The coffee scent has been all the....uhh...."Rage" lately, especially for me. I really like Zoom plastics, especially the Baby Brush Hogs and Trick Worms, but always add scent to the bags when I get them. Maybe they do add scent and maybe I'm missing it, but I can't detect any on the new Zoom baits I purchase. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted July 9, 2010 Super User Posted July 9, 2010 Whether they do I not, I don't know for sure, but just add Mega Strike anyway! Quote
Dixon Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Zoom doesnt add scent to there plastics and why should they. Zoom is still the number 1 plastic company in the business and most likely that wont change for awhile. Zoom plastics catch fish without any scent added. Check out the zoom ultravibe craw. It is my favorite Quote
David Rangel Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 maybe Zoom n't need to do that ! they work great !!!! David Quote
Gangley Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 The ZOOM's catch fish, plain and simple. I have never found the need to add scent, but then again, it could have helped if I had added it and I just never knew. Quote
Blue Streak Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I am not convinced, and never will be that scent improves any bait. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 9, 2010 Super User Posted July 9, 2010 Hmm... I'm pretty happy with both JJ's Magic and MegaStrike. The investment isn't much, I think you might give them a try. I'm not saying either product is actually an "attractant", but I do think fish will hold your bait a bit longer than one without the scent. 8-) Quote
Blue Streak Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I use MegaStrike at times RW and just for that purpose. But I am still not convinced that they make any difference at all. Quote
Gangley Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I'm not saying either product is actually an "attractant", but I do think fish will hold your bait a bit longer than one without the scent. 8-) I can agree with this, but I think it would be the additional strong taste that the scent adds to the lure, and not the smell of the scent it self, that keep the fish attached longer. But I am not a fish so I will never know. However, RW, I do feel that if a fish was to bite a lure with a scented dip or paste (something that attaches a strong scent/taste to a lure), that the fish will definately hold on longer. Anything that will get a fish to hold on longer is a plus in my book. Just not sure if it will bring more fish to the lure. Quote
Dixon Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Scents are scents. No matter how much people push mega and JJs on this board. Neither one of them work all the time or even half the time. No scent does. For the most part they cover up human scent which is probably number one reason to use it. If you work in the industry you will hear a lot of weird things used as scent. The main one is WD 40. lol Quote
bassin is addicting Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 i love Zoom products...they work fine as-is. but i do use Mega-strike and JJ's.... not all the time. who REALLY knows if they work. i'm of the opinion that they sure don't hurt. not sure of the "attractant" part...but do think they make them hold on longer.... like i really know i think it's more of a confidence thing...which is 90% of it.. 8-) Quote
LA4024 Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Love my ZOOM baits, never really thought to dress them up. I always seem to catch more than my buddys who like to use lots of different scents. Quote
Eddie Munster Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I use Zoom plastics with JJ's about 90% of the time. I stopped dipping the tail in the jar and started folding it to dip the middle in. The reasoning being the fish will hang onto the middle of the worm (near where the hook is at) longer. Probably just a psychological thing but it's working. Quote
Captain Obvious Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Why fix it if it ain't broken? Wink I agree, they are the best soft plastics out there why change Quote
BassCats Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 they don't change them because they would have to raise prices. Quote
evrgladesbasser Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 I don't know why they don't inject, but I would have to agree with the sentiment "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I like thier product as-is. Quote
TrippyJai Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Zoom products are amazing and I catch fish with or without scent. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted July 10, 2010 Super User Posted July 10, 2010 Number one plastic in my boat. Quote
Dave P Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I find myself buying probably 90% Zooms. The only reason I deviate, is if I can't find what I want in a Zoom... Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 11, 2010 Super User Posted July 11, 2010 I think the majority of my plastics are all Zoom. I've got an ever increasing supply of Rage Tails though. Throw in a several packs of Gambler baits and a few Yum branded plastics. It's hard to beat the price on Zoom baits. Quote
repper Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 perhaps they feel they appeal to more people if they don't. that way the customer can chose to add scent or not, and the customer can chose which scent to use if they do want to add some. to each his own..... i like Hot sauce myself, if i use any. Quote
catchnm Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 No doubt Zoom plastics are awesome. I've used Baby Bush Hogs in just about every color they produce. I don't remember ever adding scent to any of those and they flat catch fish for me. I started this thread because I decided to give the Fat Albert Grubs a try and came home from Academy with a few bags the other day. None were scented so I dropped a few drops of Hawg Sauce in each bag. That's what started me thinking about the scent injection. I'm gonna fish the grubs a bit tomorrow and I'll post back after that. I'm sure I'll catch fish on them. Will the scent make a difference, probably, but like has already been posted I believe the only difference will be the fact that the fish will hold the grub a little longer after taking it. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted July 12, 2010 Super User Posted July 12, 2010 They have salt in them, but I do so well with zoom plastics I never used to add anything to them. Now I add a little bit of megastrike and the plastics work a little bit better, though it's nothing magic. Quote
