soopd Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I am looking to purchase one of these two baits. There is a huge price difference in these 2 baits. The bull shad is $55 and the Bbz-1 is $20. I am wanting this bait to fish in the tail races where I live. Any advice? Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted July 8, 2013 Super User Posted July 8, 2013 High Power Herring. Better bait overall. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted July 8, 2013 Super User Posted July 8, 2013 I love the BBZ-1 personally. But then again, there's no way I'm going to break down for a $50. anything! Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted July 8, 2013 Super User Posted July 8, 2013 High Power Herring. Better bait overall. Really? Hmm.....looks like my swimbait arsenal just grew....Thanks Speed!!! But between those 2, Bull Shad for sure! Jeff Quote

Haha, $50 is a good price compared to some of the baits out there. I hear ya though, I used to scoff at the price of some stuff and then magic started happening.... Quote
soopd Posted July 8, 2013 Author Posted July 8, 2013 Where can one find the High Power Herring? Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted July 8, 2013 Super User Posted July 8, 2013 www.fishatl.com/swimbait last time I checked. His number is on that website, give him a call. He is on Facebook too. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Huge difference in the two at all levels but both are good. they both will weigh about the same, swim differently, etc. Major difference would be the profile. The question you are asking would be similar to "should I use a plastic worm or jig..." Both will catch you fish, but are very different. Quote
CTGalloway21 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 but seriously, who advertises their product on their website and it starts with bashing a competitor like that? Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted July 8, 2013 Super User Posted July 8, 2013 I wasn't going to get into that here....but is it bashing if it's the truth? Both guys have their fans but from a bait standpoint, IMO, the HH is a better built and finished bait. 1 Quote

Hanover_Yakker Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 As long as they both catch fish, does it really matter? Now, with respect to the original poster's question which asked specifically about the BBZ-1 and the Bull Shad, the SPRO is a more finished looking product and is more marketable, but the Bull Shad looks more realistic in the water. If you want to get into swimbaits, then you need to be ready to spend some $$$ regardless of what you choose. The other thing you need to consider is rod and reel combos to cast these things - the re is a huge difference in the combo setup necessary within the same product line. Are you talking the original 6" BBZ-1 or the newer 4" or even the 2.5" baby baits? For the Bull Shads, are you talking the 5", 6" or the new 9". The line and gear requirements might be slightly different. Quote
craww Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 I'm a swim bait novice, but can say the bull shad gets a ton of bites...Just make sure you have adequate line capacity if your near Atlantic run striper. Quote
soopd Posted July 8, 2013 Author Posted July 8, 2013 The 5" bull shad and maybe the 4" or 6" Spro. I have a setup that will handle those with ease. Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 I have both of the ones you mention, and my preference is the Bull Shad. The action is more realistic in my opinion. Others opinions may vary or differ even. Quote
