Super User new2BC4bass Posted July 7, 2013 Super User Posted July 7, 2013 Picked up a used Trion last year. Took it to Florida this May. Came spooled with light braid. Free spool time is excellent so I mounted it on a 7' Medium Fast Compre for use with 10" weightless worms. Not good. Sent it to Mike for cleaning and to make sure all was well with the reel. Asked Mike to make a few casts with it since I was having a major problem with over-runs and backlashes. Mike said 2 brakes on and a little spool tension, and he was throwing a 5" Senko with 1/8 oz weight on a custom MH rod 75' with little effort and almost no thumb. (This was after he had gone through the reel.) His suggestion was to get rid of the light braid on the reel, and to use 3/8 oz. or heavier lures. Today I spooled the reel with 17# Sufix Elite (may go to 40-50# braid), mounted it on a Quantum Tour Edition PT 6'10" Heavy Fast, tied on a 3/4 oz. jig with a Mister Twister FAT Curly Tail Grub, and headed to the river for some practice. To say I was thrilled with the results would be putting it mildly. I left the reel settings alone. Didn't even touch spool tension. However Mike had it set is how it is set now. I realize going with a heavier lure definitely helped with the backlashing problem. I also know a good cleaning can sometimes do wonders for a reel. Just as important was Mike's free advice on how to make the reel a better performer by using heavier line and heavier lures due to the spool's weight. Mike says that it will make a good reel for long distance casting, and for pitching. This reel is now a casting machine. No backlashes at all today and only a couple loose loops when I got careless. Distance is very good. Retrieve is smooth. Reel went from a PITA to use to a pleasure to use. Thanks Mike! Haven't used any of the others you worked on yet. 1 Quote

Super User kickerfish1 Posted July 7, 2013 Super User Posted July 7, 2013 X2. Mike does great work and a pleasure to do business with. I don't think I have heard anything negative about his work. Keep up the good work Mike! Quote
