Question... How Much Florocarbon Line.....

Hi guys! I am going to be fishing Table Rock in a couple weeks and I know I have to use Florocarbon line if I want to catch fish there. I will use braid on my reels and then tie on some fluorocarbon. Question is... how much fluorocarbon line do I need on my reels? I have heard anywhere from 3 feet leader tied to a swivel to the braid. I have also heard 10 ft of floro, 20 ft.... all the way up to 100 ft of floro. We will be fishing some deep water there and a lot of spots will be rock piles, trees in 25-45 ft of water. Anyway, have to get my reels all set up in a couple of weeks and just curious what the general consensus is on how much floro I need to put on.

No matter situation I always put on 8-10 feet. That way it gives me some extra line to retie. I will always put a new leader on when the line has knicks or my leader is getting to short.

I would personally tie on about a 6' leader to start the day. That way you still have room to retie a few times. If you're just going for braid with a fluoro leader, the leader doesn't need to be very long.

If I use a leader, I put on just enough to where it doesn't get reeled onto the reel.  So 7-8 foot or so!

I usually go with about 5-6 feet. I didn't like nor did I want to reel the knot into the guides (Albright)...I did that in the gin clear water of the gulf of mexico for years with no issue. on some occasions I was down to less than 10inches of leader and I still caught fish

 

I used red power pro with 20# or 15# seagar invisx as a leader for Redfish, snook and trout

 

when I was after Tarpon it was a 50# leader

Same here.  I dont even like the knot going into the eyes.  I'd rather tie on more leader then deal with the knot.  That is the main reason I rarely fish a leader.

 

Will you all be night fishing?  It tends to be Trocks best  bet this time of year.  Which if you are the braid/flouro wont matter.

I use two full arm-to-arm lengths when I tie mine on (that equates to about 10-12').  Once I get down to less than 3' of leader, I tie on a new one.    I use a modified alberto knot so that the leader knot is seemless and passes through the eys without resistance.

When using a leader I tie enough line so the knot is at the first guide and doesn't go through that way the knot never goes through any of my guides.

Thanks for the info guys. Someone asked if I will be fishing at night.. yes but mainly dawn to noon and early evening to mid evening.

If your going to use a swivel you can't use too much or you can't cast. Swivels don't go through guides well. Use the Alberto knot and tie on as much fluoro you think you may go through in a day (re-ties). Then again, if you break off at the connection knot it doesn't really matter anyways - So tie a great knot the 1st time!
