I snagged a brand new quest fishing rod for $25. It's a 6'6 medium action fast rod. It has 9 guides plus the tip. Rated for 8-17 and 1/4-3/4. I believe it was a good deal, it's an IM8 blank with a Fuji reel grip and guides. What would you use this for?

If its a casting rod, it'll make a good jerk bait rod. Spinning rod, small cranks and light plastics.

It's a casting.  I really like the way it feels for weightless T-rigged senkos but not weighted Texas rigs. Probably because I fish the weightless more around light cover like boat docks and the weighted in heavy cover like grass and brush so I want the power of a medium heavy.

topwater, poppers and fluke.

Maybe a jerkbait depending on the what I am trying to get the lure to do.

I have that same rod in 7' MH. It is SUPER stiff. I use it for throwing huge pike baits as it is way too stiff for anything else IMO. I have lost several frog fish with it because it is just way too stiff. It is like an H XXF rod IMO. No backbone bend what so ever and very little tip bend. I even cracked some of the epoxy around the guides frogging with it, the guides were flexing at their feet because the blank would not.

Unless yours is totally different, I would not suggest it for anything. It is however, a SUPER sensitive rod. If I could get just a little bit of backbone bend with it then it would be a heck of a heavy t-rig rod.

The amazing sensitivity was the first thing I noticed when I picked it up. I do agree that it's a little heavy but no that heavy. It's probably because your' s is two grades heavier. It feels sort of like a medium heavy that's slightly lighter than it's rating. The sensitivity really made me like it for senkos because I find that it's really easy to gut hook a fish on a senko. I will check it out as a topwater/jerkbait rod, but I hardly ever fish jerkbaits unless soft plastic jerkbaits count.
