toddwchandler Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I just got my order today from Fish Hound and part of my order was a pack of 4 inch Shad Shape Worms by Yamamoto. Should I Texas rig these things and fish them like a Senko, Texas rig them and fish them like I would a Zoom Fluke (jerk bait), or something else? Also, what size hook would be best? Thinking a 2/0 or 3/0. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted July 4, 2013 Super User Posted July 4, 2013 They do very well being nose hooked on a drop shot rig. Quote

Yep, the Shad Shaped Worm was designed as a drop shot bait and it is very good. I've also seen Jarrett Edwards fish it weightless, nose hooked like a fluke. It would also work well on a darter head. toddwchandler Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 Interesting. I have been really reading up on drop shotting over the last few days, so maybe the delivery was very timely! I just have to figure out what kind/size of dropshot weights and hooks to get now. Also, I just started back to fishing in the spring and have been using exclusively 10# mono line. Will that work for drop shotting or am I going to need floro? Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted July 4, 2013 Super User Posted July 4, 2013 I like the Gamakatsu Split Shot/Drop Shot hooks and a 1/8-1/4oz weight for drop shotting. 10# mono probably isn't the ideal line but it will work just fine. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted July 4, 2013 Super User Posted July 4, 2013 The shad shape worm is an excellent drop shot bait...............BUT..........beware, it attracts panfish by the millions, and GYCB plastic is not bluegill/rockbass/perch proof. It get's pretty irritating and frustrating that it takes 3 packs of them to catch a solid limit of bass because the panfish keep biting the tails off. I am not "complain about the durability of baits" guy, but these have baits have long since been a thorn in my side. They produce SO well, yet, for the reason I stated above, why I would go broke using them often. I have found similar, well producing baits from other mfg's. that withstand destruction from the roving band of bait molesters. Like the Berkley twitch tail minnow, Zoom tiny fluke, and a real sleeper..........the Gambler Shakey shad. 1 Quote

Yes they get a ton of hits from smaller fish, but I've caught a lot of bass on them. As well, I like to rig them in a split shot method for deeper presentation, either nose hooked, TX, or wacky. toddwchandler Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 So what would be the best kind of line for a drop shotting setup? I have no problem buying a spool of the appropriate line, I just don't know what line that might be. Quote

I'd recommend a decent fluoro like Bass Pro XPS Fluorocarbon, or something like P-Line Floroclear (FC coated copoly line), or YoZuri Hybrid in anywhere from 6-10 pound tests. Quote
