Siebert Outdoors Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Pretty much what the title says. Are they really that great? I've seen some good reports. I've been thinking about buying a pack and try to modify them for a jig. 8-) Quote
b.Lee Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I have heard good things and bad things. I heave tried their flipping hook one time, and was neither disappointed nor satisfied. From the reports, people claim they are as sharp as they advertise but that sharpness may have come at a sacrifice for strength. Some say they points with bend on impact. Again I only have that one time experience so I cannot say for certain because it did not happen to me. Quote
WanderLust Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I've seen them and been tempted a few times however the price always scares me away. Owner, Mustad and Gammy all work superb for me. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 8, 2010 Super User Posted July 8, 2010 GMAN, I'll be your guinea pig. Make me a dozen 3/4 oz Mop Jigs (painted football heads) with a 6/0 EWG hook, green pumpkin skirt, wire tie. When you determine the cost, I'll send you the money via PayPal. -Kent Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 8, 2010 Super User Posted July 8, 2010 Well since RW's paying...I'll take the same. ;D Quote
Hornytoad 10 Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Tro-Kar ROCKS!!!!! The jigs sound pretty sweet to! Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted July 8, 2010 Author Posted July 8, 2010 All the feed back is welcome. Good bad and ugly. I'm going to go forward with this and I know of a lake that loves jigs but is real tricky to fish. It would be a great test lake. These fish are weird to everywhere else I have fished. Sounded to me like a good idea. Quote
tennsopher Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I bought trokar mag worm in4/0 size.If you have trouble sticking big fish on plastics this might be your answer.Less pressure needed to hook up.The most important tackle you own is your hook and your line. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Please GMAN, dont make all your jigs with trokar, your prices are too fair for that!!! Any how, as others have said, never had an issue setting the hook with other brands jigs or worm hooks- although, i think if they (Trokar) made a twist lock for froggin I may try them out. Quote
Diablos Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I have the 4/0 worm hook and I'm totally indifferent towards them. I don't really see them working any better than an Owner or Gami for half the price. Quote
tennsopher Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I live and fish in central Florida. The fish get big here and I think the bigger ones have a little tougher jaw.The mag worm is the only trokar I use.It is made heavier than the others. To get a 10+in the boat I want the odds on my side.Whatever you choose to fish with is fine I merely gave my opinion to answer the question. Quote
Hook Set Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I use them for C-rigging, I figure I can use the extra penetrating power with the sweeping motion I use for C-rig hooks sets. Caught a 7lber last night C-rigged Eeliminator. Great hook up and the hook looked as good after a long hard fight as it did when I rigged it up. I like em. Quote
Scorcher214 Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I've never had a problem with gamaktsu hooks. If money was on the line, I would use Trokars, but I don't do tourneys as of now so I don't see the use in spending the extra money. Quote

Dont worry its not going to happen. I'm in the summer time boredom since my boat is down, looking for something to tinker around with. LOL last year was bismuth jigs this year is Trokar. Next year no idea yet. Depends. It never ends. LOL Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to tinker with this and see what happens. It might not even work but we will see. I have a feeling it will from past experience. I'll keep you guys posted. Watch the tackle making section in about a week. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted July 9, 2010 Super User Posted July 9, 2010 I have tried a couple of packs(Freebies) and have had no problem with them. Largest fish with them so far is a little over 5 and have seen no problem with the points bending. I would have to give them a grade of "A" at this point. Quote
