Super User clayton86 Posted July 3, 2013 Super User Posted July 3, 2013 What broad heads do you guys use for deer? I'm in need of some broad heads been thinking bout the rage heads. My BIL uses blood runners but had yet to put one threw a deer he used to run crimson talon I think they are called and he swore by them. Quote
destroyer350 Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I use slick trick magnums,g5 t3s and qad exodus they are super sharp and are very durable, the exodus more so than the slick trick.the t3s are in my opinion the best mechanical, very sharp and never had one pre deploy.all fly like field tips Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted July 3, 2013 Super User Posted July 3, 2013 You want mechanical or traditional. I've been using Slick Tricks and Grim Reapers. Got some Slick Trick Nukes a few weeks back that seem promising. I like the hell Razors too. Never tried any of the G5s I might pick some up for next month, and see how they stick into a piggy. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted July 3, 2013 Super User Posted July 3, 2013 Any BH through the vitals will kill a deer. Shot placement is far more important than any BH choice. There are certain BH's that may work better for a shoulder shot (ie a fixed blade head) and there are certain BH's that will work better for a gut shot deer (ie large mech). If you plan on making a bad shot, you need to consider where that bad shot may take place. If you plan on making a good shot, it doesn't matter what BH you use. You are going to read a million different things about this head or that head that didn't work, when the truth of the matter is the person made a bad shot and needs to blame something. But hey, that is what society is teaching people these days, always blame someone or something other than yourself. Okay, off my soap box. Quote
jhoffman Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Im shooting magnus stingers at the moment (lifetime warrenty) but ive shot grimm reapers, slick tricks, abc sonics and have been pleased with them all. The only head I hated was a rage. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 4, 2013 Author Super User Posted July 4, 2013 My good buddy shoots T3s swears by them but I think he said they are illegal in NY along with 3 blade rage. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 4, 2013 Author Super User Posted July 4, 2013 My regs regarding mechanicals "Broadheads with retractable blades are legal. Broadheads with mechanical blades are legal if the blades DO NOT form a barb or hook when the arrow is pulled from the flesh of a deer or bear" Quote

Clayton, may I come hunt with you? I'll bring you a pack of broad heads! They won't let us so much as fart in the general direction of a bear in Alabama. Quote
OkeechobeeAngler Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Grizz Tricks for me. Though I do have some G5 T3's also. Quote

All the places I have access to have bear and bob cats both are illegal to hunt and trap. Same goes for using a rifle it's shot gun and .22 or smaller only unless deer season is closed so my .243 stays inside oct-dec. Quote

Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted July 10, 2013 Super User Posted July 10, 2013 Rage for me Yep. Nasty. Quote
TJS209 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Mainly Slick Trick Standards but I also use grim reapers. One BH I've been wanting to check out is VPA vented and non-vented. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted July 10, 2013 Super User Posted July 10, 2013 Just got two packs of Toxic's in today. These are some evil looking things. I'm gonna try one on the foam block when I get home. I believe these will do very bad things to the friendly furry forest creatures. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 11, 2013 Author Super User Posted July 11, 2013 I seen some slick tricks yesterday man are they tiny only 1 1/8". 1 Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted July 11, 2013 Super User Posted July 11, 2013 I seen some slick tricks yesterday man are they tiny only 1 1/8". Yeah, but they do the job. Break them shoulders and bust them lungs. Shooting from my PSE at 70#s and 30in DL. They are dang near passing through the target block at 30 yards. 20 yards they are passing through. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 26, 2013 Author Super User Posted July 26, 2013 Just ordered some toxics by flying arrow. Two of the full timers here at the armory are shooting them and showed me the videos on YouTube and pics. Holy crap are they nasty punching a hole in a 55gal drum both sides with a giant hole. It's a coring broad head but not like traditional ones. All I know is I can't wait till October. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 26, 2013 Author Super User Posted July 26, 2013 That's what my buddy shoots he swears by them. Quote

I plan on using one on an early season doe to see how impressed I am. Kind of leery on the small 7/8 diameter, but I think the coring aspect may make up for that. Quote
MDBowHunter Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 I was just checking those toxics out, and if your hunting jugs or drums ( with an 80# bow ) you'd be fine. I find it a little funny that I couldn't find one video of someone taking a deer with them. I don't see them doing all that great with a deers shoulder blade, but I could be wrong. I think that I'll stick with the G5-T3s Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted July 27, 2013 Super User Posted July 27, 2013 The toxics were not released till just recently. There hasnt been any deer season that is open since the release. Quote

Ahh ok, please post up some results once you guys get them. I'm anxious to see how they perform on a actual hunting setup, shooting around 60 or so pounds instead of the 80# in the barrel shot. I'd also like to know how they fly compared to a field point, this is one of the main reason I shoot the T3s. They flatout fly awesome and put the deer in the dirt, and they're way more consistent then a rage (as far as the blades all deploying)... Quote
