Nmorse Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I recently invested in the KVD sexy frog and the Booyah Poppin' Pad Crasher. I am new to fishing with frogs, and wanted to know how I should retrieve the two frogs for best performance. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 3, 2013 Super User Posted July 3, 2013 Cast. Let sit until ripples move away. Twitch with stop and go pattern back to you. Strikes will happen when frog stops. Throw over pads and do the same. Throw over grass and do the same. Throw around piers, docks, boats, boathouses and do the same. Throw parallel to blowdowns. Just throw it and twitch it back to you. Your goal is to figure out what twitches the bass want and in what color. 1 Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Great advice from Sam. I'd add that it would be a good idea to cast it onto the shore and hop the frog off into the water. I have gotten some crazy blowups doing this from my kayak. Quote
tatertester Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 The way you retrieve a frog can vary a lot depending on many things, such as weed cover, weather ,water depth, water clarity , water temp. , BUT, mostly what the bass want....SOOO, if your not getting bit, alter your retrieve til the bass tell you what they want.....Good luck. Kevin22 Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Just go out and throw it around. You cannot fish a frog wrong... just make it act like a frog on the surface thinking about where to go. Quote
troythebassman Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 walking the frog has always worked best for me. just like a spook. Also i would recommend picking up some stanley ribbit frogs. they act more like a buzzbait by the legs kicking. those will do some damage Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 3, 2013 Super User Posted July 3, 2013 I treat frogs like a crankbait. I work the bait until I find out what the bass want. Sometimes they hit the bait after it has been sitting still for a few seconds and I twitch it, and sometimes they hit the bait while it is moving. Quote
CountBassula Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I had much better hookup rations with Booyah Pod Crasher JUNIOR. The KVD frogs were very hard for me to set the hook on... Quote
destroyer350 Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I trim the skirts to and leVe one longer than the other, helps make the frog walk better Quote
Super User bigbill Posted July 3, 2013 Super User Posted July 3, 2013 One day on a farm pond in VT a kid was throwing live frogs he caught in the bass pond. The frog would slowly sink as it froze in the water. When out of the darkness a bass would come and eat it. He did this about 10 times or so and each frog would freeze, slowly fall then get eaten. To me never fishing with frogs yet there are topwater frogs And sinking frogs. Try a crank n pause or let it sit or twitch it. Quote
