Even though I had a great weekend fishing I did have one issue that I hope someone can shed some light on.  I have a Powerdive V2 70lb thrust trolling motor. Now, the pedals for these models are crap..I know this but don't have much of a choice.  I had the pedal out over night and there was a good amount of condensation from the evening dew. As I was using the trolling motor later that day it was starting to turn counter clockwise without me touching the pedal. It would continue to wind unless I held my foot on the opposite turn direction.

As I returned to my dock, i had the TM deployed still and I noticed a little while later that the wires had been all coiled around the shaft. I ran down to the boat and it turned so many times it popped my transducer wire clean in half. I was shocked it had the strength to do that, but quite ticked. The motor would only do that turning if the pedal was plugged in. If I took the pedal off, it stopped.  It's got to be something shorting out on the pedal right?

So that evening i stowed the pedal away in a compartment so it would be dry for the morning. I was only able to fish for about an hour the next morning, but that problem didn't happen again.

The pedals are supposed to be waterproof.....well this would suggest it isn't. Damage is already done and luckily just a snapped wire was the worst of it. This pedal is only about 7-8 outings old so practically brand new. This is my 2nd pedal since I've owned my boat. The first pedal that came with it crapped out 2 seasons ago.

What are your thoughts on this?  Has anyone else had this same TM and pedal with similar issues?

It's common with the v2 pedals. It's either the circuit board or corroded contacts.

Soooooooo any fix or solution? Or am I S.O.L?  I mean it seemed to work fine when completely dry, but any bit of moisture seemed to have messed it up. I'm not buying any more pedals. I'd rather sell the whole thing and upgrade to be completely honest. The TM itself is a beast and works great. The pedal sucks.

Not that I know of. Did you try calling MK? You can add the iPilot for $450 and have a hand control plus all the features, or upgrade like you mentioned.

Have not called them but I plan on it. I don't know that I could hand control effectively with a remote in the nasty stuff that i fish.  Open water wouldn't be a problem but I think it'd be too much of a pain for my normal fishing. I just wish they'd redesign the pedals for this thing because I've read on numerous other forums and sites that they malfunction or go bad. Not exactly appealing especially when they're $90 a pop.

Have you considered the auto pilot. Your motor either comes with it or it can be added as an option. I use the hand/wrist control instead of the foot control. That would eliminate the foot control failures. Just a thought.

If that upgrade is $450 as stated, I think I'd rather just get a better trolling motor all together. The TM is a workhorse, however I would like some of the bells and whistles offered on the current Terrova/Maxxum models.  But then I'm looking at another 1K+

If it is auto pilot it is the compass went bad in the head. Happened to mine.

....Bill

No Auto.  Just footpedal steering at the moment.
