Shane Procell Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 What are some of your favorite baits that you or your father used to catch bass that you can no longer find? If you have a picture that would be cool too. Quote
bass or bass ? Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I use these baits nearly every time out. Jitterbugs, one frog pattern, the other black jointed. Hula Popper in perch pattern. DareDevil spoon in red and white stripe. An old Mirro-Lure I used to use Snook fishing when I lived in Florida. Quote
snuffy33 Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 L&S Mirror-O-Lure, the 1.5" size in particular. :'( Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 2, 2010 Super User Posted July 2, 2010 My father didn 't fish however I 've been long enough in this sport to have fished ( and still do ) with old school baits, my t box has Jitterbugs, Arbogasters, Hula Poppers, Spooks, Sonics & super Sonics, Tadpoles, Hellbenders, Waterdogs, original bombers, Mud Bugs, Sputterbugs ( now named sputterbuzz ), Lucky 13s, River Runts n 'such, they still catch fish .... which only proves that bass were as dumb 30 years ago as they are now. Quote
Blue Streak Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Arbogast Mud Bug Heddon Tad Poly Hellbenders Original wooden Bombers. River Runts Creek Chub Plunkers Go Deeper Crab I think it was Heddon. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 2, 2010 Super User Posted July 2, 2010 Why would some one stop using a highly productive lure just because of the era in which it originated is beyond me. In the marshes of Southwest Louisiana nearly everyone has gone frog crazy! So ole Catt breaks out the Johnson Gold Spoon Quote
Nebraska Bassin Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Jitterbugs and Hula Poppers are good... still easy to get around here, though. Here's a good one for you: Mepps Combo. Anybody remember those? ;D Quote
Bassin_MO Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I have an old Smithwick Devil's Horse that was my grandpa's. It's with my "retired" lures because I would be too scared to lose it. I use newer ones quite frequently though. Great classic topwater. Love the Horse! Quote
basser223 Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 arkies rattle band jig works great for me same as the jitterbug Quote
tholmes Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Hildebrandt Snagless Sally. Apparently being marketed by Yakima Bait Company these days. I've caught a lot of bass on one of these with a black skirt and gold blades. Tom Quote
bear7625 Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Jitterbug-black,frog Lucky 13 Crazy Crawler-mouse w/leather tail Creek Chub Darter-not made anymore Quote
Thefishy1 Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Still throwing my grandpas Original Storm ThinFin, and still catching fish on it. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 2, 2010 Super User Posted July 2, 2010 Jensen Froglegs Hedon Crazy Crawler Still see water. The Lazy Ikes and Flatfish not so much. Quote
wvbucketmouth Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 The old jitterbugs have much better action and noise than the new ones, so I still use old jitterbugs quite a bit. I also throw a few old creek chubs (pikies, injured minnows), heddon river runts, and south bend bass o renos every now and then. I don't use any nice ones as that can be kinda pricey. I used to collect Punkinseeds, but never have fished with one. I may have to give that a shot. I love those old lures Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 4, 2010 Super User Posted July 4, 2010 Original Flatfish, still around but never see one in a tackle shop. Agree with Catt, if it worked 50 years ago it will today. I've been turned on to a Wahoo redfish gold spoon for bass, not saying it's better than the j-spoon. Quote
0119 Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Johnson spoon but in black chrome. Hildebrandt Snagless Sally yellow with a goldblade. That is a killer but I cant find them anywhere. Quote
