Super User MarkH024 Posted July 2, 2013 Super User Posted July 2, 2013 Spent Friday through Monday up at my summer home with the family. Got out to fish just about everyday with decent success. Weather was in the upper 70's clouds and sunshine for the most part. Had a few storms trickle in on and off Friday/Saturday. Water temps were uppers 70's and broke into low 80's on Sunday with a lot of sunshine. I had a lot of blow ups at the good hours for topwater, and I spent the rest of my time punching weed mats with my new Siebert Outdoors tungsten punch skirts. I will write a review in the tackle section of that after this post. Overall I had a great time with a lot of blow ups on the frog. I think every bass that hit my frog I caught, but I missed a dozen pike or so. They just can't seem to inhale them the same way a bass can. Lost a really nice pike at the boat. Here are some pictures from the GoPro of a few catches. Big bass of the weekend. 21" and 4lb 11oz. Just goes to show you the length and weight difference of the northern bass vs a southern bass. This guy was fun to catch and fought like a beast in the thickest, nastiest slop. You can see how much lily pad and weed growth I have to work with. I love it. Big pike of the weekend. Just around the 30" mark. Nice fish that smashed my LiveTarget frog. A few more pictures of other fish. I have some video footage that I'll try to put together showing some of the catches. 3 Quote
PABASS Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Awesome great shots, love how dark the bass are. 1 Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted July 2, 2013 Author Super User Posted July 2, 2013 Thanks. Dark backs and yellow bellies. The bottom of the lake is pretty much muck and silt through the entire lake and it gets very warm. I've seen water temps in the 90's in the dog days of summer. Almost all the bass in there are colored like that. I actually like when bass have a nice white belly, I think they look prettier. But, I'm not going to get picky on colors when I'm catching them. ;-) Quote

I always liked the way they look(Dark/yellowish), around here the bass have allot more silver, although its easy to see when they swipe at a bait lol.. 1 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted July 2, 2013 Super User Posted July 2, 2013 Nice outing. That bass in the first picture looks bigger than 4-11. 1 Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted July 2, 2013 Super User Posted July 2, 2013 Nice catching. Looks like a ton of fun!! Jeff 1 Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted July 2, 2013 Author Super User Posted July 2, 2013 Nice outing. That bass in the first picture looks bigger than 4-11. In all honesty Dwight....I felt like it was too. I have a Rapala 50lb Digital scale. I did a test at home with a gallon of water which is supposed to be 8.35lbs. My scale weight had it around 8.5-8.6lbs. So it's not far off but this fish just felt heavy to me. Plus at 21" you would think it'd bee in the upper 5's to 6. Either way it was a nice healthy bass. It didn't have a thick belly, pretty slender. Quote
PABASS Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Nice outing. That bass in the first picture looks bigger than 4-11. Lol I thought the same looks to be in the 5# range, but I would take that fish all day long and on a frog man I need to go fishing.. 1 Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted July 2, 2013 Super User Posted July 2, 2013 That's sound like a great week and you got some nice pics of those fish 1 Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted July 2, 2013 Super User Posted July 2, 2013 yes sir those are some dandy's!!...i use the rapala 50# one also and have tested it out on a variety of things and its pretty accurate & consistent, i've been happy with it...some largies just don't weigh up as big as they should, they should always be a pound or 2 heavier then i've been surprised the other way were its a smaller fish and it weighs up alot heavier then i would of ever guessed... x2 about fish weight. You can tell when you see the different fish from different regions say FL and NY Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted July 4, 2013 Author Super User Posted July 4, 2013 Here is the video I put together. It's a little lengthy and could use some severe editing but my laptop is ancient and it was frustrating enough to put this together. 2 Quote

Super User MarkH024 Posted July 4, 2013 Author Super User Posted July 4, 2013 sweet mark!! ya editing vids on laptops not designed for it is a real PITA, i feel your pain man...its a struggle to just do what i do...hell it took me nearly all day to do the compilation vids, sucks...but i tell ya i love having vids, pics are okay but its nothing like having actual vids of the outing to rewatch as it went down to relive the moment...i'll never regret paying out to get a gopro and the pile of batteries and other crap i needed... too bad you didn't live a tad closer so we could roll out and get on'em I have an old Dell from when vista just hit the market. Back then it was lightning fast, today its a joke. Had I taken more time I could have made this a bit better and fixed some errors. I'm going to be getting a new pc for work soon so I'm going big to get a nice editing pc. I agree having videos is a lot of fun. I like to see the strikes and hooksets. But windows movie maker and Cineform aint going to cut it. I need more power! Regarding YouTube, I thought you could loop yhe music tracks but couldn't figure it out. Ill look into that more. Frog if we're ever in the same neck of the woods a slop fest froggin adventure will be a must. Thanks for watching everyone. Its only the beginning. Quote

I look forward to making more videos soon. The fish was 21" but long and slender. I was surprised at the weight. Thought it was over 5 easy but hey it was a great fight and a beautiful fish. I'll take it any day. Quote

Super User MarkH024 Posted August 6, 2013 Author Super User Posted August 6, 2013 So I hit up my lake this past weekend with awful results. It was by far the biggest let down for a weekend get away of fishing in quite some time for me. The lake was down about 8-10 inches and the water temp was about 8 degree difference from the last time I was there. Weed growth and pads were still looking PRIME for swamp donkey catching. I threw the kitchen sink at the fish in the lake with nothing to show for. I only managed a single bass at around 15 inches and a few short pike. Nothing at all produced well for me. The few fish I did nab were from two lures. I threw a Yo-Zuri Sashimi Popper and a 3/8 oz Siebert Outdoors swim jig in blue gill color. The popper was entertaining because it was like Air Jaws on shark week, with the pike breaching out for it. One of them got about a good 2-3 feet out of the water. But, they couldn't seem to get a grip on the lure and I missed a lot of them. The fact that I didn't lose the lure was amazing from how many blow up's I had. And for my luck, my GoPro died as that action started so I didn't even get to humor my self watching the fish explode. A few more batteries are in order for my b-day this month I think. The bass I nabbed was on that same popper and it sounded like a paddle smashing the water when it hit. Scared me because I was in such a daze from lack of "action" all weekend. The few pike I landed where caught on a Siebert Outdoors 3/8 oz swim jig paired with a baby rage craw. This swim jig goes through milfoil amazingly well. Better than the flip n swim jigs I have from Northstar, which I also like a lot. Both are great products. Once again, Mike from Siebert gets a 5 star mark from me! So in short, no videos to post or pictures to share. I might have 1 of that bass I got but I haven't even taken the time to review whats on the camera yet. When I do i'll post it if its worth while. I'll chalk this one up as my 1 bad outing for the year. Still beats being at the desk all day.... Quote
5dollarsplash Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 (edited) It was a rough weekend in Wisconsin. Spent about 5 hours on the water Sunday battling the jet ski's and pontoons. Managed 2 bass with the largest being 18". The girlfriend caught a crappie and a gnarly 30"+ 6.25lb bowfin. That was our excitement for the day. Hopefully next time your up the weather behaves. I'll see if I can get a pic up after work. It almost took my jaw-grips when it did the crocodile deathroll coming out of the net. I need a gopro like you guys to get vids of this stuff. To be honest the weather was great despite a small cold front that was passing through. But it wasn't even much of a front, temps where high 70's still. It was just an "off" weekend. Usually I can manage a limit or so but this was brutal. Well, better luck to you and me both next time! That bowfin sounded like a nice surprise. I have never caught one before. Quote
5dollarsplash Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 We were on a new lake, so there was the learning curve too. Usually we can both limit, but a bowfin like that is as big as 3 17" bass up here lol. Pound's divided by fish = alright day. Quote
CDobber Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Mark, your place is up by Green Lake, correct? Just curious....and what's wrong with pontoons out there, 5dollar...some of us fish for bass off of them here in Wisky! Quote
